I don't think there is a "Baby Boomer" out there that did not grow up with the stirring, memorable soundtrack to "Victory at Sea" as a striking background to their childhood. Such a powerful musical score, our veteran dads played it thruout the Eisenhower and Kennedy years while "us kids" played "army"...for better or worse. Though musically, it's been critizied as "derivative", I would disagree. In this particular instance, Richard Rogers rivals Aaron Copland in creating a unique American score and sound, that will still be here as representative of a amazing , albeit tragic, chapter in America's history. This score has already outlived the veteran's who initially purchased it on vinyl... followed by their kids CD acquisition... and now their grandchildren are adding tracks to their IPods. If there is such a thing as "historical accuracy" in regards to music, then "Victory At Sea" is that..and more. Highly recommended.
