Mormons: An Open Bookby Anthony Sweat
With the growth and exposure of Mormonism across the country and world, more and more people are curious about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Although most Americans have an opinion about Mormonism, many of them admit they don't really know what Mormons actually believe. Using scriptures, quotes, facts, engaging visual images, and even some humor, this one-of-a-kind book is designed to openly explain the beliefs, practices, history, and culture of Mormonism. Chapters answer such questions as “Are Mormons Christians?” “What happens inside LDS Temples?” and many more. Chapters address topics such as LDS beliefs and marriage and family, the position of women in the Church, and LDS views about politics and America. There are even sections that dispel some common myths and misconceptions about Mormonism.
Written from the perspective of those who know and live the religion, the pages of Mormons: An Open Book invite you to come in, learn about, and better understand a growing body of faith in America and across the world: Mormonism.

This book is exactly what the title claims: An Open Book. I have read other books on Mormonism that have attempted to explain the beliefs of the church but have missed the mark in terms of clarifying the reasons for certain practices and traditions. This one is far above the rest. Firstly, the quality of the paper, the graphics and layout of the book, and the eye-appealing photographs make it a delight to hold and peruse. The "Mormyths" boxes on pages throughout the book address specific "myths" about the religion that most people have wondered about at times. The information is accurate and presented candidly and humorously with no apology for the doctrines that others may view as different from mainstream Christianity. It gives references from the Bible that tie these seeming oddities to the Judeo-Christian tradition and help to make sense of why Mormons participate in practices that seem odd to mainstream Western Christians. If you are a non-Mormon with honest questions or curiosity about the faith (but don't want to commit to asking missionaries about it because you are perfectly happy with your own religion, thank you very much) this is the book for you! It details clearly and concisely everything you want to know from the viewpoint of an insider who is a practicing member of the faith without being preachy or trying to convert. If you are a Mormon who has tried to explain your faith to friends with different beliefs (but feel like they were more confused after your explanation than they were before) this is the book for you!
