Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"This simple counting book celebrates a child's wonderment at the marvel of a snowfall. ...A sparkling salute to the frosty season."—Kirkus

"Siddals's book is perfect for small hands, and Sayles's evocative illustrations in pastels create winter surroundings made for playful explorations." —School Library Journal

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Siddals and Sayles (previously teamed for Millions of Snowflakes) again join forces for a winning evocation of a boy's awakening. In the beginning, Sayles casts the child in morning's dewy blue light. "Good morning, blankie./ Good morning, bear./ Good morning, bunny/ I see you there," he chants. As Siddals's rhythmic, gently rhyming salutatory roll call continues, the illustrations grow brighter: a toy crown glows golden; the boy's hair lightens to red as he shares a book with his baby doll. Finally, Daddy's at the door. "Good morning!" accompanies the final illustration of father and son in a fully lit, tender embrace. Ages 2-5. (Nov.) Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
Children's Literature
What an exuberant way to wake up. "Good morning, blankie. Good morning, bear. Good morning, bunny, I see you there." As the pages grow brighter with the dawning light, the adorable boy expresses his delight at recognizing all the familiar things in his bed, his room, the sun outside, and finally his father entering the room to greet the day with him. The artwork is done in pastels and pastel pencils and is endearing, and the rhymes don't miss a beat. A great way to start a child's day, as well as you own. 2001, Henry Holt, $15.95. Ages 6 mo. to 4. Reviewer: Judy Chernak
School Library Journal
PreS-The joy of waking to a new day is captured by a small boy's ode as he greets each familiar object in his room with delight. The short, rhyming phrases-"Good morning, blankie./Good morning, bear./Good morning, bunny./I see you there"-are typical of a young child's perceptions. Luminous illustrations in pastels capture his exuberance, although somber shades of blue seem more reflective of nighttime than morning. A ray of sunshine as the curtains are pulled is the only hint that it is, indeed, early morning. Although slight, this picture book is emotionally on target for the very young.-Sally R.
