All Music Guide - Deren Svendsen
Fans who discovered Incubus and their album Make Yourself through their massive radio hit "Drive" may be surprised that the band released a follow-up album so quickly. Yet the reality is that Make Yourself was a definitive sleeper hit, never peaking past the Top 50 of Billboard's album charts, but staying on those same charts for close to two years and in the process shifting over two million units. With each successive single that was released, the band gradually moved away from the nu-metal/Ozzfest crowd they had been initially lumped into and revealed the solid songwriting and talent for a good melody underneath the layers of surging guitars. The lessons learned from ...

The lessons learned from Make Yourself have definitely been applied to Morning View. While there is still a fair share of aggressive numbers "Circles," " Blood on the Ground," and " Under My Umbrella" arguably the strongest of the harder tracks, the ratio of softer and mellower numbers have increased dramatically, to the point where hardcore fans of earlier material may be bewildered. For the most part, the transition works. "Mexico" is a sparsely arranged acoustic ballad that gives lead singer Brandon Boyd an opportunity to demonstrate his formidable vocal range. "Are You In" is an upbeat, funky tune reminiscent of Sugar Ray and that's meant in a good way. The most offbeat track is the album closer, "Aqueous Transmission," a tranquil, exotic-sounding ballad that sees the band successfully experimenting with Middle Eastern string arrangements. Not all the experiments gel "Echo", and there is a tendency, especially in the middle third of the album, for the songs to sound too similar in sound and tempo, but on the whole, Morning View is a fine follow-up to Make Yourself and a natural progression in the band's musical evolution. While it may not appeal to fans of the harder material, music lovers who like their rock a little less aggressive and a little more ambitious and, well, sensitive should give Morning View a spin.

    Great CD

There are about eight great songs on this CD. "Wish You Where Here," "Circles," "Mexico," and "Nice to Know You" are a few of them. "Just A Phase" is absolutely beautiful.

Jaqi, art school teen and mega incubus fan

ok, unlike some people, who lose faith in a band just because they evolve a little bit, I must say that I love this album.. It was my first incubus album. I love it so much that after I bought it, I decided to go ahead and buy the Morning View sessions DVD, which also kicks by the way...Along with four more incubus cds. Two more reasons to buy this cd are the awesome lyrics and the fact that their live shows are excellent!!!

DEAR GOD THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING

Could you show me dear, something I've not seen? Something infinitely interesting. If you want something infinitely interesting, and well, INCREDIBLE, buy this album. Brandon Boyd is ingenious, and the album is terribly creative and well put together. Highly recommended!!!

    I Like It

I like this album because it has a relaxed theme to it (atleast to me). It's not their best. I like Make Yourself better. But 11am (Morning View) is my favorite Incubus fan. The lyrics just come out to me for some reason.

    Amazing

This is an incredible album. It is deffinitly different than their earlier works, you don't hear too much funk in the music, but it is still amazing. It is a powerful, moving album, with deep and important lyrics. This album is for any poet who loves music.

One of the best Incubus albums

This is one of the best Incubus album. I think this is their second best album. I think their best is S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Sure they got away from their old stuff, but its still awesome. I highly recommend this album.

    Talk about a crappy CD!!!

I bought this CD because I thought "Wish You Were Here" was a pretty cool song. I bought the CD and I couldn't even finish listening to it. I thought it sucked really bad. The CD starts out pretty good with "Nice To Know You," which I eventually got tired of because of excessive radio play. After that, it's all downhill!!! Please, if you're thinking of buying this CD, don't! If you really want a good Incubus CD, but S.C.I.E.N.C.E. or Make Yourself. I haven't heard the other ones yet, but I'm sure they're better than Morning View.

    a very mature CD

The only reason I got this CD was for "warning". But then I listened to the rest of it once and never really liked it, until resently. I had a 14 hour car trip , so I popped it in the CD player and listened to the whole thing about 2 or 3 times. I instanly fell in love with it and listened to it the whole time. It was very different to what I've heard in the past. It was both mellow and fast-paced. The lirics were what impressed me the most. I recommend this and all of the incubus albums.

a great band, only this one is in 3-D

Incubus has done it! They have achieved what very few other bands have only attempted. They have realized that there is more to music than one demensional guitars and flat, static vocals. A band should not feel obligated to stay in one category, they should evolve into what their gifted minds affords them. And the fans should allow them to expand as well. Incubus has not only broken free of the confines of "what the buyer wants to hear," they have followed their Muse, and their Muse has led them to a place where only few artists have dreamed about. Morning View is an outstanding album, but i don't for a second believe that this is all Incubus has left. They still have an ace up their sleeve and I can't wait to see it. Enjoy Incubus!!!

Incubus is the best band ever

I have loved Incubus for so long now, and I think Morning View is the best album yet. Even though I love "Make Yourself," Morning View is just so perfect. Every song is amazing, and there is soo much talent in every person. (Brandon Boyd is the most beautiful person on the planet, and he is all mine). Every lyric for every song is so creative and different, and you can tell that the band is so passionate. I love "Wish You Were Here", "Under My Umbrella" and "Aqueous Transmission." Actually, come to think of it, I love every single song. I hope that their next album is as amazing as this one, and I can't wait to marry Brandon Boyd!

    diversity is growth

rob zipp, stop pouting and give incubus credit where it is obviously diserved. you sound like a little boy who has just had his halloween bag stolen, incubus has broadened their approach to their music and it has resulted in mass exposure, so dont label them as sell outs. they are getting noteriaty, due to the fact that they have opened the door to a different style on this album. so quit bickering and respect what they have done if you are a true fan.

    Amazing Album, their best work!

Morning view is an amazing album, where you can practicly hear the guys growing up. The songs are great, the sound is amazing...this band is going to get big! I recommend all the songs in this album, especially Warning, Wish you were here and Are you in.

    Incubus scores

It is such a good thing to turn on the radio and are able to tell the difference between different bands. Incubus is one of them. They are original and dont copy of ne one. This a great album not the best but great. It is soft and mellow. Good music to get high to.
