What People Are Saying

Christopher Stasheff
[Morningstar] kept my interest from the first chapter. Watching a common thief become engulfed in a growing legend was a fascinating experience. I am very much looking foward to his next book.

What makes this book special you ask.

This book is unlike most fantasy novels. How? The hero or protagonist and setting is drawn from the legend of Robin Hood and other heroes but discards the romantic images of the heroes and draws a frank, realistic, even dark picture of the true nature of the heroes behind the legends. When I first starting reading it, I was surprised that it is written from first person perspective by a companion of the supposed hero, an unusual style, but I realized how ingenious it was as the story went on. Basically, the book describes the molding of a hero from a greed driven, callous, immoral criminal who only due to convenience becomes a hero. Does he truly become a hero of heart at the end? I'm not going to give it all way. Suffice it to say, it is maravilloso!.

    My favorite to date

I've read all of the US published Gemmell books to date, this being an early one. I loved the all, but this i felt had depth that surpassed the rest. A must if you liked the rest.
