School Library Journal
PreS-K-- The star of this picture book from Canada is an anthropomorphized pig who, in the course of a week, goes into a steep decline in his approach to personal hygiene. By Saturday, he has given up bathing entirely, which casts a pall over his grandmother's visit. She refuses to hug him, pleading fear of fainting. Taking the hint, Mortimer quickly resumes all good grooming habits and is suitably rewarded. The plot here is as predictable as the language used to divulge it. What entertainment and originality that exists is provided by Bianchi's suitably messy cartoons, done in pen-and-ink and watercolor and touched with amusing detail. Entertaining but not memorable. --Christine Behrmann, New York Public Library
