Overview

Accurate, easy-to-use, and up-to-date - this user-friendly guide is the ideal drug reference for the dental office. Detailed coverage of over 2,000 commonly used drug products, including the top 200 prescription drugs in the U.S., assists in the rapid identification of drugs that dental patients may be taking. Drugs are presented alphabetically by generic name in a succinctly ordered and standardized format with pertinent drug information. An easy-to-use cross index is the key to using this book for both brand and generic name identification. An additional index, based on a therapeutic and pharmacologic classification, can also be used to quickly locate drug monographs. A companion CD-ROM contains 950 customizable patient education sheets that provide valuable facts about drugs patients may be taking. The sheets can be printed in English or Spanish.

• A companion CD-ROM contains 30 full-color pathologic conditions that may result from drugs patients are taking, as well as 950 customizable patient education sheets that provide patients with invaluable drug information and specific instructions in both English and Spanish.
• Helpful PDA version of this text is compatible with both Pocket PC and Palm Pilot and can be purchased as a CD-ROM that is loaded onto the handheld service or downloaded from the Internet.
• Alphabetical organization with A-to-Z thumb tabs for rapid identification of drugs that dental patients may be taking.
• Each drug profiled includes generic name, pronunciation, common brand names, controlled substances schedule, action, uses, doses and routes, side effects, contraindications, precautions, pharmacokinetics, and interactions of concern to dentistry.
• Maple leaf icons indicate common brand names for the generic drugs sold only in Canada.
• Material provides information on the top 200 prescription drugs in the United States.
• Information features complete and consistent monographs of more than 2,000 commonly used drug products.
• A therapeutic and pharmacologic index assists in recalling drug names.
• The recommended antibiotic prophylaxis for the prevention of bacterial endocarditis and the prevention of prosthetic joint infection are included, as detailed by the American Heart Association.
• Additional alternative therapies (i.e., herbal and nonherbal supplements) assist practitioners who encounter patients using these increasingly popular products.
• Two appendices include sample prescriptions and drugs affecting cytochrome P450 isoenzymes.
• New drugs, as approved, are posted on the Mosby website: www.mosby.com/dental.

• Herbal and Nonherbal Remedies appendix includes a significant number of new herbal products to keep pace with the current popularity of their use.
• New herbal material makes the reader aware of the increasing use of herbals, their dental considerations, and their potential interaction with drugs.
• The addition of 30 new drug monographs, 50 new drug combination products, and formula changes give the reader the most contemporary information available.
• New sections in each drug monograph, Drug Interactions Impacting Patient Management, offer more expansive coverage of each topic.
• Revisions by the ADA/AAOS joint committee are incorporated in the Prophylaxis Recommendations section, inside covers, and end sheets.
• New information covers the recently recommended ADA color codes for identification of local anesthetics.

· Instructions added to the appendices containing tables make them more user-friendly and more able to fully explain how to use the tables in conjunction with the individual drug monographs.
· Inclusion of new material on brand names, dosages and routes, indications, contraindications, and precautions keeps the information up to date.
