Purpose: The purpose is to provide a "practical, portable and evidence-based resource on fetal monitoring." This book is concise and succinct in its review of important information about fetal monitoring. Although there are many reference books or textbooks in this area, this is THE pocket guide to fetal monitoring.
Audience: This pocket guide is meant for physicians, staff nurses, nursing students, and/or medical students providing care for obstetrical patients on fetal monitoring. The authors include a nurse, a nurse attorney, and a physician working in the area of perinatal care.
Features: The book is divided into sections addressing the history of fetal monitoring, its physiologic basis, uterine activity, terminology, interpretation, and management based on the updated NICHD. Information is clearly reviewed and organized to easily locate information for the busy practitioner or the searching student. Tables, flowcharts, and fetal monitoring strips are pertinent and helpful in understanding the content. Use of bulleted lists for some information makes it easier to use for busy practitioners.
