Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Mary Allen Carey, PhD (University of Oklahoma College of Nursing)
Description: "Mosby's Review Questions for the NCLEX-RN Examination, 5th Edition by Saxton, et al, includes approximately 5000 review questions and is accompanied by a CD-ROM (pp. 751). "
Purpose: The purpose of the text is to increase the RN student's readiness to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination and be successful. This is an extremely worthy objective and the authors have met this objective.
Audience: The audience is the student who is enrolled in or has successfully completed a registered nursing curriculum. The authors are credible authorities on the subject of the book.
Features: The 5th edition reflects the latest NCLEX-RN examination test plan and includes questions in alternate item formats. The CD-ROM supports an electronic testing format. Questions are grouped in each clinical area by specific topic such as pharmacology, nutrition, growth and development and body system. According to the authors, this format gives students quick access and manageable study choices. Test performance results identify strengths and weaknesses in the areas of client needs, nursing process, clinical area, critical thinking and category of concern. Rationales are provided for each answer option and two comprehensive practice examination options are available for students.
Assessment: This is an excellent resource to support the task of practice testing. The book is of high quality and the fifth edition justifies replacing the previous edition.
