Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This series called "Bugs, Bugs, Bugs" is sure to delight the young children as they learn about simple ants, crickets, wasps, and other crawly creatures. The twenty-four-page book tells what mosquitoes are, what they look like, and what they do. Easy reading is provided in the form of large print and very few words per page. The set-up reaches students who may be reading below level. The words and pictures correlate closely to give youngsters a plethora of information with very little text. Brilliant color photos offer large and detailed poses. The photos appear on every right hand side page and also extend a short way into the left pages. One up-close photo allows readers to see a mosquito perched on human skin. Students will learn that mosquitoes can be brown, black, and gray and that some have white stripes. Glossary words are found at the back of the book, as are sources for more information, and an easy-to-read index. Only 118 words are used for this grade 1, Early-Intervention Level: 14 book. It is suggested that libraries and school classrooms acquire the entire set for primary classrooms. 2006, Capstone/Pebble Plus, Ages 4 to 8.
