“I would recommend it to any one specializing in pediatric cardiology, cardiology, academic cardiologists, teaching fellows and cardiothoracic surgeons or anyone with a particular interest in cardiology as it is makes a fascinating informative read. The electrophysiology section would be particularly useful for human physiology undergraduates and postgraduates as electrophysiology concepts are well-explained and the formulae are laid-out and explained. Its strengths are the logical progression from embryology, orientating the reader through anatomy, electrophysiology, testing and diagnosis, pathology and management. Another strength is how comprehensive it is so it has a wide readership. The clear headings make it easy for individuals to identify the relevant parts and the clear references provide an additional exhaustive source of information for the researcher and academic. Few junior trainees will purchase the volumes at this 2013 BMA Medical Book and Patient Information Awards high price but those dedicated to the specialty will be more inclined and wise to make the purchase.” — BMA Medical Book Award reviewer, 2013 BMA Medical Book Awards

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Christina Michael, MD (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description: This update of a respected pediatric cardiology textbook has several new chapters on contemporary topics such as quality, safety, and research design.
Purpose: It is an excellent primary pediatric cardiology textbook. The authors aim to provide practical and updated information in all areas of the subspecialty.
Audience: The primary audience is physicians, physicians in training, and advanced care practitioners in pediatric cardiology, but this is also a valuable reference for those in the growing field of adult congenital heart disease. The book is particularly useful for pediatric cardiology fellows preparing for their board examination.
Features: This two-volume set covers a wide array of topics in pediatric cardiology, including everything from cardiac anatomy and congenital heart disease to cardiac mechanical support devices and state-of-the-art interventional techniques. The chapters on congenital heart disease are particularly well done, and include illustrations and the most relevant cardiac imaging modalities.
Assessment: This comprehensive book is a high quality resource for clinicians charged with caring for young patients with heart disease.
