Overview

In the little city of Flint, MI, the good die young and the people left standing are the grimiest of characters. With reign over the city's drug trade, Benjamin Atkins made sure that his precious daughter, Raven, was secluded from the grit that the city had to offer. But when Raven's young heart gets claimed by Mizan, a stick-up kid in search of a come-up, there's nothing Benjamin can do about losing her to the streets. She chooses love over loyalty and runs off with Mizan, but her new role as wifey soon proves to be more than she can handle.
Puppy love always feels right, but things turn stale, and she soon finds that everyone she loves has disappeared. All she has is Mizan, but when hugs and kisses turn to bloody lips and black eyes, she realizes that Mizan is not who she thought he was.

Raven becomes desperate for a way out, but this time, Daddy can't save her. Every time she finds the courage to leave, fear convinces her to stay. Like a moth to a flame, Raven is drawn to Mizan, even though she knows he'll be the death of her.

When the hood life she chose becomes unbearable and the only way out is in a coffin, what will she do?

I highly recommend this book, because there might be someone out there going through a similar situation..

Moth to a Flame is a very good book to read, is very detailed. It really focuses on a naive young teen-age girl that has been captured mentally and manipulated by a street thug. At the beginning, Raven's innocence didn't let her see her true enemy because it was being covered by sexual emotions. Is really crazy how a man with his sweet talk can turn someones mind into his own. I think it took Raven a very long time to realize how much she had lost. I'm not understanding, if Ethic was so alert to everything, why he didn't think of questioning the nurse at the hospital when the nurse mentioned that she tried calling some of her family members...Raven's last tortured could of been avoided. I wish I've never would of read the ending, it was too sad...After all the tortured Raven had been through with Mizan, I think Raven should have lived happily ever after with Ethic and the kids... Extremely, Sad Ending....

    Good Read

This was a really decent read. In the beginning, it kind of put me in the mind of The Coldest Winter Ever with a little twist. I'm really picky about reading books that have errors in them and this book had quite a few. I was able to ignor them in the beginning, but towards the end, I was frustrated. There weren't many, but after building up, I just got a little annoyed (that's just me though). With all the things Raven went thru with Mizan, I surprisingly didn't find myself judging her for her and her decisions. The author made me feel what she was going through. I felt her emotions and although I wished she would have made better decisions, I didn't judge her for them because I wondered exactly what I would do in the those situations. I predicted the ending...or so I thought and it had a surprising twist. This is a must read.

    Best book I ever read

This book is a must read. There was no need to make a trilogy for this book. One of the best books I ever read.

    Misses the mark

I totally agree with other reviewers (L. Harley and L. Tindal etc) on this one. I enjoyed the evil and treachery of Mizan and his end. The Mizan character was true to himself consistently as was Rich. I found Benjamin and Ethic made errors inconsistent with their street knowledge and instincts. Raven was just too stupid for me even her actions were inconsistent with her upbringing and love for her family. Nikki and Raven's sister were smarter than her. Raven's mom was easy to talk to so why Raven did not turn to her mother sooner was beyond me. I get the whole battered woman's syndrome mentality so I can forgive some Raven's later moves but before that give me a break. If the hospital told Ethic they used her phone to make contacts why didn't he explore that further. Come on that was a fatal error for someone trying to keep someone safe to miss let alone, for a mastermind to miss. Once again I'm sick of the Ashley endings; it's such a turn off to future purchases. The predictability of it spoils the ending of the book because the reader knows what's going to happen. I would recommend this book to those who like a urban read and haven't experienced the Jaquavis Ashley formula, to those who need to see an example of the mind of a battered woman and her struggle, or to those who love the Jaquavis Ashley tales. This is not a bad read just not a good one.

    Great story

At 1st I was annoyed with the writer repeating the line "but what she didnt know was...". I mean really?!?! I also hated the street slang dioalogue between the characters. The writer completely over it at times. Once I got past the annoying stuff, I truely enjoyed tge story. This is one of my favorite books ever.....worth every penny. This needs to be a movie. With Nia Long as Raven lol.

I just got done reading this book n i hve been hooked to it eva since i bought it, the characters roles throughout the story are truly compelling. I felt as if i could feel all the pain, manipulation and struggles of each character along with sum good moments. Never hve i ever read a book that has captured my heart and soul. Truly if u don't either cry, laugh, smile or feel a since of rage throughout this book then i encourage u to read it again. * A Must Read*

    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!!

THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST BOOK I HAVE READ THIS YEAR!!!! AND THAT IS SAYING ALOT. I HAVE READ QUITE A FEW BOOKS THIS YEAR, AND THIS ONE WILL LIVE LONG IN MY MEMORY.

WOW, WHAT A POWERFUL STORY. I WAS SO BLOWN AWAY AT THE COMMITTMENT AND LOYALITY RAVEN HAD FOR MIZAN. NOW I KNOW SHE IS YOUNG AND THIS WAS HER SO CALL FIRST LOVE, BUT REALLY WAS RAVEN THAT NAIVE. MIZAN WAS AND IS A LOW DOWN DIRTY DOG.

ETHIC WAS MY MAN!!!! HE LOVED RAVEN FROM THE BEGINNING, BUT KNEW SHE NEEDED TIME TO BE A KID AND TO GROW UP. AFTER ETHIC'S ACCIDENT, I THOUGHT THAT WAS IT. BUT I WAS HAPPY To KNOW THAT HE SURVIVED. I FELT THAT ETHIC SHOULD HAVE DID MORE TO PROTECT RAVEN. I KNOW RAVEN WAS STRONG WILLED AND A LITTLE CRAZY AT TIMES. BUT ETHIC COULD HAVE HANDLED HER BETTER.

THE ENDING WAS OUT OF LEFT FIELD FOR ME. I TOO WANTED A DIFFERENT OUTCOME. BUT IT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU, THAT LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS PEACHES AND CREAM. SOMETIMES YOU ARE LEFT TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR CHOICES EVEN IF YOU ARE NOW TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING.

A MUST READ BOOK FOR EVERYONE, BUT ESPECIALLY YOUNG LADIES WHO THINK THAT THE STREETS HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER THEM. ENJOY.........
