Knit to flatter and fit!

It sounds simple. But if every knitter knew how to do it, the unflattering sweater and the top that doesn’t fit would be things of the past. Unfortunately, that’s not the world we live in, and knitwear designer Sally Melville knows why: too many knitters choose the wrong pattern for their shape and size!

After decades of teaching, designing, and writing about knitting, Sally Melville knows how to customize knitting patterns to fit a wide variety of body types perfectly. With a little planning and subtle alterations, you can make a garment that is just right for you! In Mother-Daughter Knits, Sally shares this knowledge for the first time. Together with her daughter, fellow knitwear designer Caddy Melville Ledbetter, Sally demystifies the process of picking the right pattern and modifying it to your body’s advantage. Whether you’re a beginning or experienced knitter, young or mature, an hourglass or a triangle, Sally and Caddy have you covered!

The authors have designed 30 customizable garments for women of all shapes, heights, and ages, including:

• a slimming Jackie Kennedy—style Camelot coat,
• a reversible tank top with a scoop neck,
• a Jane Austen—inspired jacket with an empire waist,
• a flirty top that enhances feminine curves.

With fascinating insight, practical advice, and patterns for both classic and avant-garde tastes, Mother-Daughter Knits just might be the most useful guide a knitter could have–whether she’s young or just young at heart.

    Inspirational!

This is one of the most exciting knitting books to come out in a long time. It seems like with most of the books that have been published recently, there's maybe a pattern or two that I would actually consider making. However, I already want to make at least half of the projects in this book. They all look like they would be flattering to wear and would have just the right amount of complexity (enough to keep you engaged, but not so much that you're scared to get started) for the intermediate knitter. There are a few patterns, however, that would be suitable for beginners. I would have bought the book for the patterns alone, but the extensive section on "fit and flattery" was a great bonus. I'm hoping some of the tips will help me make projects that will be as satisfying to wear as they are to knit.

    Love this Book

I haven't knitted in 40 years and after purchasing this book have already completed 3 of the projects. This is also my first time to knit any clothing. It always just been afgans and scarfs. Just love all the patterns and easy to follow instructions along with an appendix to explain those acronyms I could not remember. Would highly recommend this book to any knitter whether they are a beginner or experienced.

    I Also Recommend:

    More than a pattern book

I actually sat a read this book for more than the patterns. I really depicts the love that Sally and her daughter have for each other. I reminds me of how the relationship is between by older daughter and myself. It is an enjoyable book, and I have made at least one project. All the patterns are really easy. I consider myself an advanced beginner because I tend to crochet more.

    I Also Recommend:

I truly aspire to knit this well!

Compulsion came over me when I saw this book. This takes knitting to a higher aesthetical level. Sally Melville and Caddy Melville certainly make "homemade" look like the best sort of thing one could possible want to wear. Since I can't have a time warp in the house, I'll be joyously persevering as I complete Clutter Rescue to start on one these tempting projects.
