Overview

This well-executed pop parody recording -- the first in a series that currently stands at three albums -- cleverly and, for the most part, successfully offers favorite nursery rhymes as they might be interpreted by current pop and country hitmakers. The songs are all credited to zany monikers that approximate the mocked artists -- the Tallflowers for the Wallflowers, Grape Jam for Pearl Jam, Maya Cherry for Mariah Carey, etc. Many of the selections are dead-on spoofs of the work of their real-life counterparts: "Pat-a-Cake" (by Diamond) perfectly captures Jewel's breathy vocals, a mock-agonized "Little Miss Muffet" (by Lana Moreisless) wickedly apes the impassioned Alanis Morissette, and the lead singer on "Jack and Jill" by the Handsomes sounds eerily like Taylor Hanson. Parents and kids alike just gotta love an album that has Chewygummee doing "Humpty Dumpty" à la Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping," among other highly amusing tidbits.
