At the top of my list

I am a long time breeder, trainer, and show the Anatolian shepherd dog. These are very large powerful independent thinking dogs. If an owner does not train with good boundaries in a fair and positive manner. There is a chance that one may end up with a major problem as that cute bundle of fur just knocked down someone wanting to say hello. There is nothing so cute when the dog is full grown weighing in at over 150 pounds, and can make an owner who was not paying attention end up becoming nothing more then a pull toy as they take off running at speeds of over thirty miles an hour. With both the easy to read instructions and a good dose of humor style it has been at the top of my list of books all new puppy buyers must have items.

The Only Dog Training Book You'll Ever Need

I've owned this book for over 20 years. It is (pun intended) dog eared from frequent reference. It's fun to read, over and over. I have always adopted shelter pets with unknown backgrounds but Ms. Benjamin's recommendations work no matter how old the dogs are. Because you're talking to them in their own language, it doesn't matter what bad things they learned from the first people in their lives, they respond to these methods. When you let your dog be who he is, he willingly adapts to your life. I am here at B&N today because I'm buying a new copy to give as a gift - AGAIN!

The Best All Around Dog Training Reference

Mother Knows Best is generally thought of as one of the best dog training reference books any dog owner should have. Carol Lea writes in a easy to understand, common sense style. I recommend this for any owner or professional to have in their library.

An owner of an Australian Shepherd

Mother Knows Best shows the ways that the Mother Dog teaches her puppies. It also teaches how you too can be like Mother, in the way you teach discipline and be the Benevolent Alpha and Mommy. A highly reccomended book for all trainers and families who figure on getting or have a dog, this book helps you train a dog that you can handle and have the time to love.

    It really works

Loved this book. Have used many of the training methods. They are easy to remember, and easy to use. Most important, they really worked. This book is fun to read, and everything makes sense. A must for any dog owner.

An Intelligent Approach to Communicating with your Dog!

This is a terrific book for anyone hoping to employ a comprehensive training program for a new dog. There are three fantastic qualities about the theories presented in this book. 1) The methods are simple to employ. 2) The methods are easy to remember because they make perfect sense; they are based on understanding your dog. 3) These methods allow people to form truly wonderful bonds with their dogs as the basis of the technique is to communicate with your dog in a language you both understand. It begins by the owner learning to understand the language the puppy speaks; and follows by teaching the new owner to teach the puppy, thus incorporating some 'human' vocabulary. A treat to read as well as the most effective method of training I have used. This book lends incredible understanding to the basic instincts and reactions of your dog. An invaluable tool in building a loving relationship! Don't hesitate to purchase this book if you have or are getting an older dog...although the book is truly designed for puppy owners, the conceptual information in this treasure is a neccesity in properly forming a relationship for training any dog. The techniques could be used on any agegroup, since a dog is always a dog. It's also written with perfect wit, you will enjoy reading each word. Wether you decide to use every piece of advice in this book or not, you will be glad you read it. The 'natural method' the author employs is based on observing dogs in their most natural 'pack' habitat - with their mothers and siblings. Using the same basic techniques as a mother canine, along with the understanding of a dogs most basic nature, you will have an entirely new view of how to work with your dog.
