Overview

The same God who has shown His faithfulness to mothers across time is faithful still to mothers today. Daunting challenges that mothers face day in and day out are not unique to this time, and modern-day moms have much wisdom to gain from true examples recorded in Scripture.

In Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today, readers meet ordinary women of their day who, by God’s incomparable grace, were used for extraordinary purposes. Readers will journey through the lives of 15 such mothers—like Eve, Sarah, Jochebed, Hannah, and Bathsheba of the Old Testament, continuing through the New Testament with stories such as those of Elizabeth, Salome, and Mary. Exploring heart issues like fear, discontentment, grief, and gratitude, readers will discover solutions through biblical models of prayer, sacrifice, and faithfulness. Through these life lessons, the author points to the ultimate unfolding of God’s eternal purposes across the seasons of motherhood.

Each chapter ends with a “Making It Personal” section and an appropriate prayer. Beautifully designed, this book makes the perfect gift for a mother on any occasion.

This book by Kathi Macias should be on every mom's bookshelf. Christians who have grown up in church will become reaquainted with mothers of the Bible and see, through Kathi's insightful teaching, what their lives show us today. But even those who are not familiar with these characters already (Eve, Sarah, Leah, Rebecca, Mary, Eunice, Lois, etc.) will gain just as much from the book since Kathi's storytelling makes the lessons clear to all, no matter the level of biblical background. Mothers of today from all walks of life learn from mothers of the Bible on subjects like comparing children, generosity, persevering in prayer, faithfulness, forgiveness, generosity, playing favorites, and sacrifice. I know I will be a better mom for having read this book.

Kathi has made each Mother of the Bible come a live to the reader. As one reads about each mother, it is like reading with a new pair of eyes and with new insight. She has written a book that not only mothers can relate to, but also any Godly Woman that is striving for spiritual maturity. Having read her interpretion of the Proverbs 31 Woman: A Woman for all seasons I now see that I have a common bond with her and that she is a valid role model for me today.

Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today by Kathi Macias is a terrific read for mothers new and experienced. Macias takes readers through the Bible from Eve to Mary, mother of Jesus, each earning her own chapter. She summarizes each mom's story in the Bible, emphasizing and elaborating on Scripture to make her point about what makes her special. From Jochabed's sacrificing her son for his best interest to Rizpah mourning the death of her sons, there is a lesson for today's mothers. The chapters are written in a friendly, conversational tone and have great questions at the end for discussion or personal reflection. Macias encourages moms to become the mom God wants us to be.

At my age (nearly 88) I thought I'd long since learned everything there was to know about motherhood. This book taught me otherwise. Lots of godly wisdom and practical advice--and beautifully written teaching. Highly recommended to mothers of all ages!
