Dual Sporting Pennsylvania and Beyond -
The following twenty-five published magazine articles from Backroad Bob's Motorcycle Adventures Dual Sporting Pennsylvania and Dual Sporting Beyond Pennsylvania CDs begin with five stories compiled after fifteen years, dozens of long weekends, and tens of thousands of miles riding through Pennsylvania's state forests. The 2.1 million acres of Pennsylvania's state forests and their 2600 miles of unpaved roads and 2500 miles of single track trails constitute one of the largest state-owned public areas open to dual sport riding in the United States. By permitting public access to the state's forests, Pennsylvania has created a dual sport rider's paradise. It's difficult to improve on a day spent riding hard, eating well, and sitting around a campfire under a sky so filled with stars that constellations are lost in an expanse of twinkling lights stretching from horizon to horizon.
The remaining twenty articles are a compilation of stories about events from the AMA/Suzuki National Dual Sport Trail Ride Series, Racer Productions' Appalachian Dual Sport Tour, and routes I've developed after fifteen years of East Coast dual sport exploration. A few articles cover the same event, the Shenandoah 500km, and rightfully so as this is the best dual sport ride in the country. The folks from Northern Virginia Trail Riders could write the book on organizing a ride. A few others concern the demise of the most famous off-road event in America - the Blackwater 100 Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Race. Two decades ago, with more than a little help from legendary promoter Dave Coombs, the Blackwater 100 became known as the toughest race in America. This reputation put Dave's Racer Productions and his fledgling GNCC series on the map. Today, the GNCC title is the most coveted off-road crown in America. One of the articles is an interview with Sidney Dickson - a former World Rally car driver, Vincent collector, and dual sporting pioneer. His insights into long distance, endurance, dual sport riding will really get you thinking about your own dual sport adventure.

These articles are the fruits of a trial and error tree planted decades ago. The bad roads, the dead end trails, and the nasty places have been left out. What remains is a four-decade distillation of motorcycling in 38 American states, five Canadian provinces, five national forests, ten Pennsylvania state forests, and eight foreign countries. These articles contain valuable information that will save you time and money and enable you to efficiently plan your own adventures while avoiding the mistakes I've made. Let each article be a preview of your own adventures.

Meet the Author

By 1990, I had ridden motorcycles through every state east of the Mississippi River, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and five Canadian provinces, but I wanted to do more. I wanted to explore the back roads across America, see the Isle of Man TT Races, examine everything that's foreign at a European Grand Prix, and experience the canopied forests, cascading streams, and towering mountains of Pennsylvania's state forests.

Over the past thirty-eight years I've done all this and taken thousands of photos of the places I've been and made millions of memories of the unforgettable people I've met. Along the way, I've recorded my experiences in hundreds of magazine articles, and traveled hundreds of thousands of miles by motorcycle in the pursuit of my dreams. If this sounds like something you'd like to do, then these articles are a valuable tool to assist you in fulfilling your dreams too.
