Children's LiteraturePart of the "Natural Wonders of the World" series, this book shows the grandeur and mystique of Mount Everest. The photographs are breathtaking. The dangers and deaths surrounding Mount Everest are explained in detail, as is the contribution of the Sherpas, the ethnic Buddhists who serve as invaluable mountain guides. The unfortunate effects of tourism and commercialism are mentioned, as well as the steps being taken to stop littering and deforestation. Finally, the author explains the rewards and dangers of visiting Everest, either as an observer or a climber. With no table of contents and a limited index, it is not useful as a research text. However, the section of "Quick Facts" at the end is concise and informative. 2005, Creative Education/The Creative Company, Ages 9 to 12.
