If you are just starting out in mountaineering or have many seasons under your belt this is one of the best books out there, IMHO. Learning anything from basic gear choices, to knots, to how-to's of rock climbing, this book gives you so much to work with. It is as close as you will ever get without taking an organized mountaineering course. Using this as your textbook and working with a certified guide will give you a foot up on the rest of the new mountaineers.
