School Library Journal
Gr 6-8--Dani's older sister has an inoperable brain tumor. When the doctor gives Cassie only a few weeks to live, Dani and her mother argue about the right way to care for her, and they don't tell her that she is fatally ill. Then Cassie receives a check for $100,000 from an anonymous donor, and Dani makes up her mind that her sister will get her last wish, to see the ocean. Without permission, the sisters and Dani's friend Austin drive to the Florida coast. Dani calls her mother when she learns that Cassie knows the truth about her condition. In the last pages, readers see Dani and her mother continuing their lives without Cassie, both with budding love interests, and watching the loggerhead turtles move towards the ocean in an affirmation of life. The plot is trite and overly sentimental, with obvious twists and a predictable ending. The characters are stock types, and never developed fully.-- Tina Smith Entwistle, Oakley Park Elementary School, MI

If you had a sister that was going to die, what would you do? Dani is faced with that when her older sister, Cassie begs for help. Cassie has one last wish that needs to be fulfilled before it's too late. This book deals with going agianst the rules to help a loved one

I loved this book. It grasps your attention right away to where you actually feel like you are a part or a character yourself. You feel like you are right along side of the other characters throughout the entire story.

The book the Morning Song is an exceptionally good book. This book tells about the struggle that a girl faces when she knows that her own sister is going to die. In most of her books you feel sorry for the person that dies and not anyone else but the family and Lurleen McDaniels books hardly ever take the format of a family member. This touches your heart because you know that this girl lived through every minute of her sister's struggle. She was there when she died and was able to fufill her last wish before she died.

This is the best book I've ever read. I cried as I read it. I recommend it and all of Lurlene McDaniel's books, even though I have only read a few.

This was a very good book, and I really enjoyed reading about Dani, a girl who's sister has a brain tumor and not going to get any better. It is a very sad book, but also a very good one.

Mouring song is a good read. It is about two sisters and one of them is dying and the other one wants to make her last wish come true. It is sad, I cried.
