Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
What is it that makes Despereaux different from other mice? First, he does not look like other mice, and second, he is curious and has a great desire to learn. Despereaux loves to read books. One day he meets Princess Pea, and his adventures begin as he vows to help the princess. Despereaux ends up in danger himself, trapped in the dungeon along with Princess Pea. How can he save her from a terrible fate? Who will help him, and will he be able to save both of them? The illustrations appear to be stills from the animated film The Tale of Despereaux. There is also a note to parents and teachers on the inside front cover encouraging a love of books and reading along with a few tips to accomplish that goal. The back inside cover shows other spinoff books from the movie. This one is based on the screenplay by Gary Ross and the book by Kate DiCamillo. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

THis book is a favorite of my five year old's. It delves deeper into the exchange between the princess and the mouse. It teaches you that anyone can be friends, that you can be brave while still be scared and that loyalty and honor are still things that will serve you in this day and age.
