Overview

Whether it’s David Bowie, Gwen Stefani, Michael Stipe, or Joan Jett, rock stars are never at a loss for words. Often obnoxious, sometimes introspective, and remarkably honest, these musings are collected here for fans who want an insight into what makes their favorite artists tick, how they view their roles as “stars” in a celebrity-obsessed society, and what does (or doesn’t) differentiate musicians from everyone else. Organized by subject matter, it presents a broad cross-section of artists offering diverse commentary on each subject. Drawing from his extensive career as a rock journalist, the author has culled these gems from countless interviews, selecting quotations about subjects such as religion, rock critics, drug use, and the battle of the sexes. Appealing to fans, musicians, and industry mavens alike, it offers familiar foibles and a glimpse into a world often perceived as glamorous and charmed.

John D. Luerssen is a regular news, reviews, and features contributor to Rolling Stone, Billboard, and CDNow.

The cover is cool; it catches your eye and draws you in to the world of John Luerssen. Music. Musicians. What they say, and whom they have said it to. John Luerssen is one of those people who have been fortunate enough to take what he loves and create something from it. And in John¿s case it¿s been a complete success. Mouthing off is a job well done, and something John Luerssen should be very proud of. Mouthing Off is hysterical! Whether caught in bits and pieces or as one long read, Mouthing Off provides guaranteed laughs and some definite groans too! The insight, the quips and quotes compiled by Luerssen, brings to the world of Rock `n Roll makes you realize that musicians are just as nuts as we are.

Fun! Irreverent! Honest! May replace Jokes for the John for good bathroom reading. Will appeal to all ages - something here for everyone.

Be it punkers or indie rockers or rap/metal merchants, this book is a gas because it captures everyone from Ozzy to Jimmy Eat World spewing equal parts honesty and pure nonsense. Regardless of what rock sub-genres you like, the commentary - segregated here by the author into topics - is what steers this collection of Rock quotes. Hands down best chapters are 'Orgasm Addicts' and 'I Need Drugs.' I got my paws on an advance copy from a friend and I'm already hoping for a sequel. Cool pictures of anyone who matters in music and the photos of Fred Durst and Courtney Love are comical. Back cover endorsements from Weezer, They Might Be Giants, Spoon, and Andy Partridge of XTC affirm that it's a must have. Luerssen definitely hits a nerve here.
