Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - RevaBeth Russell
We start reading with colorful illustrations of kids at field day facing a real problem: they cannot catch their breath to run the relay. The kids in the illustrations are a beautiful mix of ethnicities that add to the story. Readers learn that muscles allow them to move. Muscles also need oxygen and the heart pumps oxygenated blood through the body. Bellisario explains that there are three types of exercise: aerobic, anaerobic, and stretching. Exercise will lift your mood because your body makes special chemicals called endorphins during exercise. Readers learn that they should wear helmets for some activities and should always follow safety instructions, wear sunscreen, and drink plenty of water. Included is a chart kids can fill out in order to track their fitness progress and become more fit. This enjoyable book should be in schools and public libraries so parents can help their child start a healthy life style. Although the book says there are free resources for teachers online I could not find them. Reviewer: RevaBeth Russell; Ages 3 to 9.
