Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
All you need is a cell phone or digital camera and this kit, and you too can make a movie. Inside the box that looks like an old fashioned shutter used to identify movie takes are items to use in creating your movie. There is a CD with sounds and items to use a pops or for animation. The book explains the process of going from an idea to a storyboard and then moving into production, postproduction, and finally actually showing the movie to friends and family. The equipment needed reflects today's technology and assumes that the kids involved will have access too a digital camera, cell phone, and computer. Other useful items are pictured and labeled including old-fashioned notepad and pencil. Kids learn about the various people involved in producing a movie, casting, rehearsals, and setting up a schedule. Then of course there is the issue of location. Special effects and various camera shots are described. Movie terminology is included for the director. The editing process usually does not get much notice by the general public, but it is critical. Sound is added as are titles and credits. There is lots more including how to make a fiction movie, documentary, and animated film. Kids with an interest in filmmaking can keep themselves occupied for many days and weeks with this kit. So camera, lights, action and get moving to make your own special movie.
