My grandmother bought me this cassette when I was a baby and I listened to it for years growing up. It shaped my love of adventure and appreciation of Mozart (and other classical composers).  I'm 25 now and Die Zauberflote is still particularly magical to me because of this tape--though I was disappointed when I finally saw it live and the friendly dragon didn't travel along with them throughout the entirety of the play! Long story short, my grandmom spoiled me a lot when I was a baby, but of all the toys and trinkets and books that ever came from her, this cassette (CD nowadays!) had the most lasting, positive impression.  I ADORE this tape.

Made for children; captivates adults. I listened to this on a road trip with a friend and her two young daughters, 4 and 6. By the time we were back home, each girl was begging to hear the CD again and again. Their mother created origianl drawings in the car to go along with the story. I can't wait to hear it again.

I got this for my 6-year old daughter for Christmas. She had seen the opera (in German) and we had kept listening to some of the music, so I knew she was open to it. This telling has the advantage (if you want an American kid to listen) of being in English, and of mixing a young girl into the action. On top of this it is sung in English, and of course the music is Mozart, his beautiful melodies and compelling sense of drama. My daughter and my 2-year-old have been listening to this practically non-stop for over a month. This is a wonderful recording for kids. Of course, to fit the program to kid-friendliness and CD-length they have had to cut much music and shorten much of what they have kept. I just wish they had kept more of the Queen of the Night's aria.

My 4 year old granddaughter absolutely loves this CD. She listens to it over and over. The fact that a kid is in the story, the serpent and the magic all appeal to her. Great for kids.
