Children's Literature - Danielle Williams
Introducing children to the lives of famous individuals often requires removing their accomplishments and introducing aspects of their private lives. In Mozart's case, Bailey and Foster introduce a brother and sister who visit a Knickknack market' each Saturday morning where they meet strange vendors and their even stranger wares. On this particular Saturday, Digby Platt is entranced by a wig that Mr. Rummage is displaying on his cart. Several other vendors soon join in the discussion of what turns out to be Mozart's wig and soon Digby and his sister Hannah are dressed in period dress and are learning all there is to know about Mozart's life. Interspersed with more scholarly information about Mozart's life, Hannah and Digby guide the reader through a quick look at Mozart's life. The illustrations are fun and colorful and feature Hannah and Digby and the vendors at the market dressing up and playing different instruments as they learn about Mozart's life. The book is part of the "Stories of Great People" series. Reviewer: Danielle Williams
