    Excellent Intro to MP3's!

I've skimmed through a handful of books covering MP3's and found this one to be the most informative and comprehensive of all of them. For example, there are excellent tutorials on software for converting records, tapes or CD's to mp3. There's also a detailed explanation on digital audio and how you convert sounds to digital quality as well as a chapter about MPEG audio. Among other topics covered? Places on the 'net where you can find and download mp3's, Internet radio stations that feature new and old artists; a chapter on digital music and copyright law which explains what it and isn't legal about owning mp3s. Also mentioned are explanations of what software and hardware is the best for playing mp3's and 'ripping' your own. And the book ends with lists of related web sites and books that can give you more information. Mr Fries has done a wonderful job explaining mp3's, how they came to be, and what the future may hold for them.

The best MP3 book I've read

This book has everything that you need to know to get started with MP3. Lots of detailed tutorials for all major software with plenty of screen shots. Great in-depth technical information about digital audio and CDs too. I picked up lots of useful tidbits even though I've been working with digital audio for many years. The writing is easy to follow without being dumbed down. More useful information and less 'filler' than the other MP3 books I've read.
