Mr. 3000

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Although the soundtrack to Bernie Mac's baseball comedy Mr. 3000 might be a somewhat predictable mix of classic funk, disco, and soul hits, that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. And even though Steve Lawrence's "The Best Is Yet to Come" is a pretty far cry from the rest of the soundtrack, its snazzy, optimistic feel makes it work with the rest of the album. Mr. 3000's lone new track, a Babyface-produced remake of "If You Don't Know Me by Now" by Calvin Richardson and Claudette Ortiz, doesn't touch the heights of the original, but few things can, and it's a decent, respectful cover. Still, the soundtrack's heart is in its vintage tracks. It might not be the most creative soundtrack, but Mr. 3000 still has a formidable batting average.
