Overview

Age Level: 9 and up - Grade Level: 4 and up

This is an illustrated collection of silly poems, limericks and sonnets for children and families to enjoy - plus a few not so silly verses. Children under the age of nine will also enjoy listening to these poems. Great for bedtime!

There is an educational aspect to this book as well. The author, a former teacher, shows children how to read a poem properly - which syllables to stress to make the meter and rhyme flow. There is a poetry lesson included which takes a child through the steps of composing his/her own rhyming poems.

So come on in and make some new friends: The Troll on My Couch - Silly Sally - Little Pete - Penny the Pudgy Pink Pig - My Truck and I - Stanley the Little Blue Ant - and of course, Mr. McSnipper.

Meet the Author

I was born in 1946 – the first year of the Baby Boomers. I lived in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts most of my life – Pittsfield, Richmond and Lenox.

I graduated from the University of Mass in Amherst in 1968 with a BS in Mathematics. I did a two-year stint in the Peace Corps in the Philippines from 1968-1970 teaching high school modern mathematics. I later taught for eleven years and then became a computer programmer/analyst and eventually an MIS Director.

I currently winter in Florida and summer in upstate NY – with my 35 year old African Gray Parrot, Little Pete.

I enjoy playing piano and guitar as well as painting watercolors. The “watercolor” cityscape in my blog header was done on my iPad using a stylus. Check out the iPadArt page in the menu for the full version of this painting and others.

I started writing poetry when I was in my early teens. It has always brought me joy to express my emotions in writing. My poems tend to be quite straightforward. You won’t need a dictionary or an encyclopedia to comprehend them. I like my poems to flow easily, and have the reader flow with my thoughts.
