Mr. Goldberg must be a Star Trek fan because he sure seemed to be able to poke a little fun at us with this hilarious Monk story. This novel for me was un-putdownable! I was laughing so hard my sides hurt and in a few parts tears came to my eyes laughing. One part about "collectables" at the convention and what Mr. Monk does to one collectable had me gasping for air I laughed so hard. Keep in mind Mr. Goldberg does not mention Star Trek per se in his story but if you are a Trek fan you will be able to see yourself in the very funny mirror Mr. Goldbeg holds up for you to gaze in. Mr. Golberg uses fandom as both plot and even character in this story. It was also great to see Adrian's brother appear in this book because he was one of my favorite characters from the series. I also like he told the story in first person through Ms. Tegger's eyes. This allowed the reader to hear the frustrated and amusing thoughts of someone who loves Mr. Monk yet is driven crazy by him on an almost constant basis. My only regret was this book was not an episode of the series because if it had been I am sure it would have ended up being my favorite episode. So if you are in the mood for almost non-stop laughs and a good mystery plot besides? This book is a fantastic read.

Lee Goldberg has done it again! I just finished re-reading this book (I think this was the seventh time), and I still loved it. The humor and wit in this book is perfectly timed, perfectly versed hilarity that doesn't stop till you've hit the back cover. Lee Goldberg writes so well as the overworked, overstressed assistant Natalie that it's easy to forget the author is a guy. Seriously, this is one of the first I read, and he got Natalie so right I though he was a she. I love an authentic author! :) This is totally worth your time. The mystery is enthralling and full of twists. But don't tell Monk that. He hates anything beyond straight. One of his biggest complaints to the Mayor is that Lombard Street needs to be straightened. With authentic (and outragous) characters, you'll be laughing your way through a puzzling mystery. Enjoy!

The fun never ends with another edition of Mr. Monk in print form. As good as or better than the show because you are the architect using your imagination to visualize the absurdities of Mr. Monk. Be sure to add this your permanent library for future re-reading. Lee Goldberg has hit the mark again!

Have been a MONK fan since conception of the TV series. I have all DVDs to date, & read all seven MONK books. The author has stayed true to all characters from the TV series. Never has there been another unique character as MONK since the days of Palumbo.Monk is unique, funny, quirky, annoying, compulsive, and above all,the best detective around. When he finally solves a mystery, he reminds me of Hercule Poirot in the final synopsis of the crime.I have found all these qualities in all seven books as well. Will miss the TV series when it ends this summer, but I hope the MONK books continue. Thanks for a great read, plus a few chuckles along the way as I picture MONK.

Lee Goldberg, who writes the series based on the TV show about compulsive-obsessive detective Adrian Monk, has a real gift for humor. The most amusing of life's comic moments are usually at the edge of tragedy, and often are tinged with sadness. The author memorably catches all the bizarre and pathetic qualities of the hero, to our delight. In this fine novel he also has some fun with the nutty fans of science fiction films, who gather at a convention to dress themselves in weird costumes and pretend they are on space ships. That's all it takes to drive poor Monk up a wall, and the result is some of the best comedy between book covers.

I'm a big fan of the Monk TV show and this is the first Monk book I've read.Just as fun as the TV show. It's good to find out that one of my favorite TV shows lives on through these books. I hope they keep them up for a long time. Lots of fun.
