Cynthia Rylant has authored several wonderful series for children, each with different illustrators. The Mr. Putter books are definitely a favorite. Mr. Putter is an older man who seeks the companionship of a cat, and the story of how he chooses Tabby is just lovely. The stories of their life together are sweet and funny, and the illustrations are really nice. I loved reading these stories to my boys.

My son brought this book home from class for his nightly reading and I read the book so I can quiz him. I loved it and got hooked. My son enjoyed it so much that he checked out the other series. His teacher does not have all of them so we will be starting our own collection. This particular book introduced Tabby. My son hates reading and he is 7 yrs. old. This was easy enough for him to remember the stories. He brought home 'Take the Train' & 'Row the Boat' next.
