From The CriticsReviewer: Joyce D. Schroeder, B.S., M.S., M.D.(University of Colorado Health Sciences Center)
Description: This is a second edition to the previously published first edition in 2003. Due to the rapidly advancing technology used in Cardiac CT and MR imaging, this text is a timely update.
Purpose: The purpose of the book is to summarize the current state of MRI and CT of the cardiovascular system. Given the recent rapid technical advances in cardiac imaging, this is a timely and worthy objective. The book meets these objectives by compiling thorough and comprehensive descriptions of state-of-the-art approaches to cardiac imaging.
Audience: The book is written for practitioners, researchers and, to a lesser extent, residents. The contributing authors are highly credible experts in cardiac imaging.
Features: The book covers basic principles of MRI and CT cardiac imaging and includes the topics of acquired heart disease, ischemic heart disease, congenital heart disease and vascular diseases. An introduction to interventional MR imaging is also provided. The topics in the book are covered in great depth, with detailed descriptions of the background research supporting the use of techniques such as delayed contrast-enhanced MRI for assessment of myocardial viability. Generally, the image quality is good, although some reproduced images are limited in resolution.
Assessment: This book is a comprehensive compilation of state-of-the-art approaches to cardiac MR and CT imaging. Given the rapid and continuing changes in technical methods for cardiac imaging, this book is a timely and valuable resource.
