"Stories should be full of surprises," she says, as they encounter rude crocodiles, cowboys who have galloped into the wrong story, and ship captains who get lost in blizzards. A perfect ending!" cheers Mrs. Goodstory, as they land safely in a circus tent. But why end here? The child and the reader discover that with just a few quick ideas, they have the power to go anywhere on the wings of a story--and still be home in time for warm banana muffins.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
K-Gr 3-A boy tells of his explorations with his friend Mrs. Goodstory. They cross a crocodile pond on lily pads, swim with seals, and become a final act in a trapeze show, "A perfect ending!" Wearing flowers in her hair and billowing skirts, she is a free-spirited raconteur. In clever prose, Cowley has woven a tapestry full of adventures at every turn. However, the illustrations, though rendered in bright and cheerful colors, are too static for this story. The humans are depicted with frozen smiles, although the animals are represented more realistically. Overall, the text is much stronger than the art.-Karen J. Tannenbaum, Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library, IN Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
