Overview

Never before has school been this mixed up—or this much fun!

Could Mrs Roopy, the new librarian, be A.J.'s craziest teacher yet? When the class shows up they find her dressed first as George Washington and then Little Miss Muffet. And Mrs Roopy won't even admit that it's her! Can A.J. and his class help their very troubled librarian before she does something really crazy?

A.J. and his classmates are convinced that new school librarian, Mrs. Roopy, has multiple personality disorder because she keeps pretending to be famous people.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Mrs. Daisy and Mr. Klutz are back in school with the new librarian, Mrs. Roopy. AJ, an elementary school student, thinks Mrs. Roopy is crazy. He also hates to read, and would much rather spend his time riding his trick bike. He and his classmates decide to prove Mrs. Roopy's craziness after she disguises herself as characters in her library books and George Washington, Johnny Appleseed, Neil Armstrong, and various Mother Goose characters visit AJ and his friends on the playground and in the library. Since Mrs. Roopy assures the students that she was sick at home when these characters have appeared, they have trouble proving that she is actually dressing up. A tatoo on her tummy is the proof they need. When Mrs. Roopy appears in the classroom as a trick biker, the tatoo is revealed. AJ learns that reading is not as boring as he had though. The black and white illustrations are sure to captivate school children as they read Dan Gutman's third book in the "My Weird School" series. 2004, Harper Trophy/Harper Collins Publishers Inc, Ages 7 to 10.

Meet the Author

Dan Gutman
Dan Gutman

Dan Gutman has always been a baseball fanatic. He played in Little League as a kid, and one of the first magazine articles he ever sold explained the science behind the spitball, the scuffball, and corked bats. When he thought about the T206 Honus Wagner—the most valuable baseball card in the world—he began to write honus & me, his first Baseball Card Adventure. That book introduced Joe Stoshack—Stosh—a kid who can use baseball cards to travel through time and meet the game’s greatest players. Stosh has since gone on many amazing, fast-paced adventures, most recently to try to save Roberto Clemente.

My Weird School #3: Mrs. Roopy Is Loopy!

Chapter One

That Army Guy

My name is A.J. and I hate school.

If you ask me, they shouldn't teach kids how to read and write in school. They shouldn't teach math. They should teach kids how to do tricks on their bikes. That's what I want to learn! But my teacher, Miss Daisy, thinks reading and writing and math are really important for some reason.

Miss Daisy told us to write a story for homework and draw a picture to go with it. We read the stories out loud the next day in class.

Andrea Young, who thinks she knows everything, made up a story about a family of flowers who were sad because it was cloudy outside. Then the sun came out and the flowers got happy again.

It was a really dumb story, if you ask me. Flowers aren't happy or sad. They just sit there and do nothing. They don't even have families! But Miss Daisy kept telling Andrea how great the story was.

My story was about these giant man-eating monsters fighting on trick bikes in outer space until they were all dead. I drew cool pictures to go with it. Emily, this girl with red hair, said my story was scary. But Emily thinks everything is scary.

Miss Daisy said I had a good imagination, but she asked me if next time I could try to write a story that didn't have so much violence in it.

"What's violent about giant man-eating monsters fighting on trick bikes in outer space?" I asked. Everybody laughed even though I didn't say anything funny.

Andrea said maybe I could have the man-eating monsters make up at the end of the story and tell each other they were sorry.

"Monsters don't apologize!" I said. Everybody knows that. Andrea doesn't know anything about monsters.

We were arguing about it when all of a sudden some funny-looking guy marched into our classroom. He was all dressed up in a fancy army uniform. He had a white wig on his head and a sword in his hand.

"To be prepared for war is the best way to keep the peace!" the army guy said. Then he marched out of the classroom.

"Who was that?" asked my friend Michael, who never ties his shoes no matter how many times he trips over the laces.

"Beats me," I said.

"Was that Principal Klutz?" asked my other friend Ryan, who sits next to me in the third row.

"I don't know who it was," Miss Daisy said, "but he is heading for the library. We'd better go check it out! Okay, second graders. Single file!"

    Very easy quick read!

I read this book 'Mrs. Roopy is Loopy' to my son (age 6) he really wasn't sure about some of the book... he thought they were childish and boring! But at some parts he didn't want me to stop reading he was excited of what would happen next! Such as the trick biker was his favorite character since her adores biking!

    Best One SO FAR!

I think this book is the best in the series, SO FAR. I plan on reading more now! This is such a creative story for children, great storyline, and it really makes the whole family laugh! Mrs. Roopy really is loopy! She dresses in all sorts of costumes, like George Washington, and believes she is that person! The students think she might have multiple personality disorder. Very cute! ***IF YOUR CHILD IS TAKING AR TESTS IN SCHOOL, THIS BOOK IS AVAILABLE FOR THAT PROGRAM.***

Silly book that my daughter loves!

My daughter loves these books! She thinks they are very interesting and silly. She devours them, and the reading level is perfect for her (she is in 1st grade and a good reader). I hear her laughing out loud while she reads, and when we read together, I find myself laughing, too!

Mrs. Roopy Is Loopy is very good

Mrs. Roopy Is Loopy is a very good book. I like all of the things Mrs. Roopy dressed up as (like George Washington, Humpty Dumpty, Neil Armstrong, Jack and Jill, etc.) It has also clean humor and the book is great. I liked it also when they had to write stories and illustrate them. I didn't like when Mrs. Roopy played the Jhonny Appleseed song on a gutar and showed a tatoo on her belly buttion. Other then that, I think this is a really good book!
