I am currently using this book to study for the MTEL I am taking next month. I was unaware that as I studied for History, I would also be practicing for the Communication & Literacy MTEL! Although the book clearly states what to expect on the test (which is of course a good thing), it is very poorly written, and I have been doing a lot of editing as I read through it. It is as if the company allowed a middle school student to write it, and then failed to proof read it. For example, in talking about the Treaty of Paris, the book states that France and Britain met in PARIS, SPAIN. There are many punctuation and grammar issues as well, and the text is very "jumpy." I would not recommend this book. But, as the previous reviewer stated, it is unfortunately the only one out there.

I bought this for my son who was not an education major in college. He used the book the day before the exam and then took (and passed) the test. He reported that this it was not a very well written book, but it seems to be the only game in town. Despite its problems, it was helpful to him because it correctly identified the topics the test would cover.

Many spelling errors and factual errors.  Many of the practice questions are so poorly worded that even a history professor wouldn't be able to answer them.  Also many times the answer key does not align with questions that are asked.
