MTV Ao Vivo: No Museu de Arte da Pampula

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Philip Jandovský

Having said this, Pato Fu is still a very solid pop
ock band. For instance, Time dubbed them the best band in the world in 2001. This release is a live follow-up to the group's 2001 success album, Ruído Rosa, their best and most consistent studio album to date. In contrast to most other MTV live albums, this is not a straight display of big hits, although Pato Fu ...

The Belo Horizonte-based quartet Pato Fu is often compared to the '60s cult band Os Mutantes. But although Pato Fu is clearly inspired by the psychedelic pioneers of that group, they are by no means near reaching the same creative originality as their source of inspiration. Having said this, Pato Fu is still a very solid pop
ock band. For instance, Time dubbed them the best band in the world in 2001. This release is a live follow-up to the group's 2001 success album, Ruído Rosa, their best and most consistent studio album to date. In contrast to most other MTV live albums, this is not a straight display of big hits, although Pato Fu do perform some of the more popular songs from their back catalog. What makes this album different is that several of the tracks are presented here in versions that differ quite radically from the original studio versions. Perhaps the best example of that is the opening track, "Eu," which transforms from the original plain rock of the studio version into an interesting, upbeat semi-tango, complete with accordion and saw backing. Another accordion-accompanied but more feisty and danceable tune is "Porque Te Vas." These two tracks are also among the highlights of the album, as is the excellent "Perdendo Dentes," which is given a much more delicate, airy, and tasteful treatment here than before. There are also four completely new or at least previously unreleased compositions, of which the rock song "Me Explica" is the best. To sum it all up, this album works well both as an introduction to Pato Fu as well as an alternative compilation for the hardcore fans of the group.
