MTV Unplugged

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
When it was recorded, nobody knew that MTV Unplugged would be 10,000 Maniacs' last album with Natalie Merchant. As it stands, it's a quiet, gentle way for her to bow out, offering no new revelations but several solid versions of the group's signature songs mainly concentrating on Our Time in Eden and a cover of Patti Smith's "Because the Night." It's nothing new, but for fans it's a graceful way to say goodbye.

    10,000 Maniacs

Natalie Merchant is one of the most talented vocalists that I have ever encountered. This live performance is great. I highly recommend this to all fans of Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs.

    Excellent CD

Yes, it may have focused too much on one cd (Our Time in Eden), and it may have been the unwitting swan song, but it deserves placement in any Maniacs' fan collection. The songs are performed well (I'd say better than the studio versions) and it's a CD you'll begin to crave.

Although different from my usual music, I really enjoy this cd

I don't know what it is about this album, but it's great music to play on snowy days while you're cleaning house or something to that effect! I love the song ''Because the Night'' more than any of the other ones, though! During the winter I was nine, this album was a favorite of me and my mom, and we used to play ''Because the Night'' over and over! What's really funny is, both of us were huge Springsteen fans, and it took my dad (who wasn't a huge fan of either the Boss or the Maniacs) to tell us that Bruce wrote that song! Anyway, it's a great cd, and I like it alot!
