MTV Unplugged [Explicit Lyrics]

All Music Guide
Following the success of Blueprint, Jay-Z took a break from the studio productions of Timbaland and Just Blaze and stepped into acoustic surroundings for a taped edition of MTV's long-running Unplugged series. With the talents of the Roots as his backing band, Jay-Z fails to miss a step and feels just as comfortable in the unplugged arena as he does with drum machines and a mixing desk in front of him. The skills of Roots drummer Ahmir Thompson emulate even the slightest nuance from the originally programmed electronic beats, and Jay-Z fails to take this for granted, gently shifting from one song to the next in medley form with ease. With a strong track listing spanning his entire career of chart-topping hits, this ...

You haven't heard Jay-Z until you've heard this album...

If there's one thing to know about this CD before you buy it, it's this: This album will change your perception of Jay-Z as a musician in ways you cannot imagine. 58 minutes and 19 seconds after you drop this CD in your player and hit play, you're going to see Jay-Z in a whole new light. If you think you like Jay-Z now, you're gonna love him after you hearing this, and if you don't like him (you know who you are), hearing this album is going to make you hate him more than ever. This is Jay-Z at his purest and most elevated level, showcasing his abilities not only as a rapper, but as a real MC, displaying his impeccable delivery and his true ability to rock a crowd and connect with his audience. Backed by the legendary Roots crew and a number of special guests, his immaculate live performance is a testament to his almost God-like stature in the world of rap, and shows fans and critics worldwide that when he refers to himself as "the best rapper alive", he's more serious than you ever realized. In my opinion, this record solidifies Jay-Z's position as a true legend in the world of hip-hop and shows what he is truly capable of musically. For those that have never heard Jay-Z, this record should be the one that gets you started, and will either make or break your opinion of him as an artist. And if what I've said above isn't enough to convince you, lemme just put it like this: Before I heard this album, I was a huge Jay-Z fan. Now, at 3:52am, while I listen to it for the fourth time in a row, I'm a diehard fan of Jay-Z, and this album is what brought me there.

jay has proven how amazing he is

Through the Roots backing him up as his band, Jay-z has proven that his talents extend beyond the drum machines and studios.

Jay-Z Unplugged Hot but for reasons you might not have considered

Alright, so Jay-Z might be a tight rapper, but i n my mind he ain't the best, probably ain't even in the top five. But that's a whole nother conversation. Regardless of your opinion of him Jigga has released successful album after successful album, stringing together poppy hit singles that allow him to capitalize on the huge pop market while maintaining his tru hip hop heads. Unplugged takes these hits combines em into one solid album, and to give em some new flavor has the one and only Roots Band backing him up. Now, while Jay's flows might be nice, to me they sounded so much nicer with the Roots. ?uestlove and others add so much to songs we all already know like ''Izzo,'' ''Aint No'' and ''Big Pimpin'' this album in many ways feels completely new to me. Some of the highlights were: ''Can't Knock the Hustle'' ft. Mary J. Blige: Mary J. belts it out on this joint; in my opinion this was one of the most successful tracks, blending Jigga's smooth flows with Mary's soulfoul cries and The Roots unfadeable instrumentals. ''Heart of the City'' ft. Jaguar Wright. Up and coming artist adds great vocals to a very successful song. Smooth, soulful, and captivating, three things that should go with any live show. Even if you don't own a single JayZ album, this is the one to get. Great instrumental interpretations of his classic beats, along with two beautiful accompanying voices, check this out, you won't be dissapointed.

    Jay-Z + The Roots

I consider this to be more of a copllaboration between two Hip-Hip powerhouses. Jay-z could not have done a show like this without the musical stylings of The Roots and Jaguar Wright. The songs are familiar, but the band changes everything. They are nearly new songs...give it a listen. I personally recommend it to anyone who likes J.

Jay-Z holds the Blueprint for rap

Jay-Z once again displays his zest for creativity in his live show. The cd relays a side of Mr. Shawn Carter not seen to often. Plus, as an added bonus the don of rap gives a quick response to Nas' Ether. This cd takes hip hop to a level seen by few.

    Something Different

I'm impressed. This is a new angle for modern hip hop. this stripped down style, and jazz overtones fromt the band give new depth to all of these songs. It's a refreshing change to hear hip hop without excessive use of samples and drum machines and it is impressive to see how well these songs hold up without these studio tools.

    Jay-Z Came Correct Again!

I think that this is a grade A+ cd. There could've been more songs but I like the way he did it. Every song is like rap and R&B combined. It's Hip-Hop. I love the way the music was changed on every song. I own all of his albums and I think that this one shows how much good stuff he's done in his whole music career while he was solo. It's on one great album for all of those who just became fans and don't want to go back and buy all of his cd's. It's like a best of Jay-Z album.

    Jay-Z is for REAL

Jay-Z proves just how tight his raps are with this album. Today a lot of hip hop artist out there have somebody else up there fillin in half their lines. This just proves theres a man out there who can do his thing and really shows the instrumental side of hip hop. It's definitly worth checking out, even if you dont dig rap.
