Children's Literature - Jayme Derbyshire
This bright and colorfully illustrated book uses the perspective of one small girl to explore the world of relationships, both familial and social. The many roles of this child as a granddaughter, sister, and cousin are each shown in two pages of illustration, one with a short sentence of text. There is no storyline per se, but there is progression from the family relationships to friendships, teammates and even as a dental patient. The illustrations are dynamic and interesting, though the text is less so. For the target audience the lack of any story will not be noticed, but the parents may quickly lose interest. There is a small lesson or workbook section following the story proper. It seeks to stimulate interest and encourage learning numbers. The workbook also contains a suggested drawing exercise.
