Barnes & Noble - Moira McCormick
he tale of Mulan is a particularly satisfying one, accomplishing the rare feat of appealing to both boys and girls -- there's plenty of action, a strong female central character, and not too much mushy stuff. Mulan is a dutiful daughter in feudal China, who disguises herself as a man to fight in a war with the Huns. She does this to save her ailing elderly father's life -- he himself would have been forced to serve, since he has no sons. Aided by a pip-squeak dragon named Mushu (the voice of Eddie Murphy in the movie, and a Murphy soundalike here), Mulan succeeds at her daring scheme. She defeats the Hun despite being unmasked at a critical point, winning the heart ...

Aided by a pip-squeak dragon named Mushu (the voice of Eddie Murphy in the movie, and a Murphy soundalike here), Mulan succeeds at her daring scheme. She defeats the Hun despite being unmasked at a critical point, winning the heart of hunky Captain Shang in the process. The songs are above average, especially the flower-petal-delicate "Honor to Us All."
All Music Guide - Ross Boissoneau
It's hard to believe that Matthew Wilder "Break My Stride" wrote these zesty, delightful songs along with lyricist David Zippel. Mulan is the best Disney soundtrack in recent memory, with melodies you can instantly sing along with and lyrics that are amusing and thought-provoking. Donny Osmond may not ever qualify as a rocker, but he shows himself the perfect choice for the male vocal lead here, with his best effort since his brief turn in the spotlight as one of the numerous singers for Jeff Beck's "Ambitious" video a decade earlier. Christina Aguilera may have gotten the nod for the pop version of "Reflection," but it's Lea Salonga's heartfelt but not overwrought version that is the cornerstone of the album. Jerry Goldsmith's score keeps things moving, and topping it off is "True to Your Heart" by 980 and Stevie Wonder.

    Well done :)

''Reflection'' is the best song, but you will also enjoy ''I'll Make a Man Outta You'' and ''Honor to Us All''. The score's pretty good, the only song that really stinks is ''Girl Worth Fighting For.'' Anyway, this CD's a good buy.

    Christina rocks!

If you want one soundtrack this is the one. Disney did a good job when they chose Christina to be the lead singer. She shows her best in this soundtrack, no one could have done a better job.
