Overview

Eight children in three years? Impossible!

Kate and Jon Gosselin have learned that, through God, all things are possible—though sometimes slightly improbable.

Just three years after giving birth to twin daughters, Kate and Jon learned they were pregnant again—with sextuplets. In Multiple Blessings, Kate candidly chronicles the emotional and exhausting challenges she and Jon faced from the time the babies were conceived through the first two years of their lives.

This amazing story of faith provides a heartening lesson in what it means to trust the faithful hand of God to provide the strength and courage to make it through life’s seemingly impossible situations.

Infertility treatments, twins, more infertility treatments, followed by six beating hearts on an ultrasound screen. That sets up the Gosselins' memoir of the exhausting and joyous events surrounding the births of their now famous sextuplets. Those familiar with the TLC program Jon & Kate Plus 8 know how their household runs; now their story comes alive for readers as well. Kate admits, "I was a bit of a control freak," yet also quickly draws on and receives the "peace of God... like a security blanket" through her months in the hospital, Jon's job loss and the impending arrivals. Details such as how they chose names; the sextuplets' birth day of May 10, 2004; and the babies' weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit are fascinating, as are stories of running a household that was perpetually full of volunteers, looked like "baby base camp" and required carefully sequenced nightly bath time. The Gosselins' life is a whirlwind, with their book reflecting the fast-paced, faith-filled approach they take to raising their twins and their miracle sextuplets. (Nov.)

Fans of TLC will recognize this family from the television show Jon & Kate Plus Eight, featuring the Gosselin parents, their set of twins, and their younger sextuplets. Here, Kate Gosselin, with the help of her husband, Jon Gosselin, and family friend Beth Carson, shares her perspective on the pregnancies, births, and early months with eight children, infusing her memoir with her faith in God. She relates the family's story from their marriage and infertility to the arrival of their twin girls and, less than four years later, their sextuplet pregnancy. The Gosselins decide against selective reduction, manage a high-risk pregnancy, and produce six miraculously healthy babies. Kate shares the chaos and stress of caring for eight children, focusing on her conflicting emotions, her reliance on God, and the help of family, friends, and volunteers. The book concludes with six lessons Kate learned in the first year about trusting God and receiving his blessings. The Gosselins have shared their story with openness and honesty, and they will engage many readers, especially Christians and fans of their show. Recommended where there is demand.

    Save your money

I have watched every episode of Jon & Kate +8, and I don't recommend buying this book if you have watched the show. The book is basically a written version of what they have said on the show of how their family has come to be. If you have been watching the show, save your money and don't buy the book.

Also, the book is not written by Jon, Kate, and Beth. It's painfully obvious that it was written by Kate and Kate alone.

So much respect for this woman but...

Everyone is blessed by God, sometimes for no reason at all. I can't count all the blessings in my life and how grateful I'm for them. No, I don't deserve them but for some reason, God decided to grant them to me.

I know for a fact that I couldn't have done what Kate did with her children. In fact, it'd be a miracle if I could remain sane after having twin not to mention sextuplets. Needless to say, I have so mcuh respect for Kate and her wonderful and supportive husband, Jon. I cried and cheered for them through many pages of this book.

However, many times I felt that Kate was lacking a grateful heart and she seemed to take things (e.g. helping hands and gifts) for granted. Sometimes, I felt this sense of entitlement from her for having sextuplets as if she somehow deserves all the help and generosity she'd gotten just for having her own children, however many they are. Yes, it's unimaginable and she's a wonderful super mom that many of us can't even think of doing. however, I felt frustrated many times and although my heart went out to her, I felt she showed ungodly characteristics at times. Now, I'm not judging and we are all imperfect including me! So, I must realize that she's indeed a super mom and her ability as a mom is well beyond many others. So I do give her credits for what she has done, but my respect for her ends there unfortunately....

Good book to read.

Great book for fans of Jon and Kate Plus 8!!

This book is about the early years leading up to the filming of Jon and Kate Plus 8. It contains some new information about Kate's pregnancy and the early development of the sextuplets. It does incorporate their faith and religious beliefs more then on the TV show but it does not overwhelm the book.

    a great read!

Kate's insights into her pregnancies and the first year with the sextuplets was not only interesting but so encouraging. Kate infused her faith throughout her book and I found that it added another dimension to my respect for her as a mom as well as a wife. God Bless this family!

    Why

I feel I know enough about this family and their views based upon their long running reality TV show. What else do I need or want to know about them??? Just a thought.

    Nothing New

I really did not feel this book gave any more insight into the family then what one who watches the show would get. I feel Kate is so spunky on the show, I wish the book would have reflected that more. While I appreciate knowing the impact of her faith in her surviving her difficulties, I found it to be a bit much. If you are not religious, you will HATE this book! It could have been more well rounded.

    loved this book....

This book warmed my heart. It was so enjoyable. I read it in 2 days (it certainly helped that it is an easy read). I enjoyed their view of religion and the affect it has on their life. I watch their show all the time and this book let me see a little more into their lives. If you are a mother, want to be a mother, or just simply enjoy watching their show, definitly read this book!

Give your money to a needy family

Was a fan....this book is the cliff notes of the show. I want to see a book written by Aunt Jodi or Kenton and Charlene Kreider.
I find it hard to believe about all the sacrifices and concerns about money these days. I do not believe Jon is employed by anyone outside of TLC. The family is now in an enormous home with guest house and pool. This book should be kept in the History section.

    Inspirational BOOK! XOXOXOXOXOXO

As soon as I got this book in mail, I starting reading it and couldn't put it down.I read it in 2 days. I love the show, and your family. This book is changing me, as I learn to trust in God. I've written all the scriptures down, so I can post them through out my house, to listen to His words. I'm in a depression b/c of financial messes and am trying to let God guide me. I'm new to relying on Him to guide me in my path. The Gosselin's have made me believe there is hope. It will be a struggle, but I will look back to your book, in inspirational times.I send you all love and prayers, Jon,Kate,Cara,Mady,Alexis,Leah,Hannah,Aaden,Joel,Collin.

Can't get enough of the Gosselin Family!

I only recently became a fan of Jon and Kate -- in June 2008 when I became a stay-at-home mother myself. I never watched much television before, but I have a lot of time to do that now and I just stumbled upon the show. We have one son (for now...) and he is without a doubt the light of our lives. However, as a new mom I had my MANY fears and insecurities, as I'm sure nearly all new parents do (my husband had his own fears as well, but I felt that I had more as a stay-at-home). Watching Jon and Kate Plus 8 seriously gave me courage and strength and confidence in myself, not to mention provides many lessons in parenting. The Gosselin family is more real than any other on television, and I can't tell you enough how very much I appreciate that. And as soon as the November issue of Good Housekeeping hit the stands, I bought it and read your article (it was amazing and made me love the family that much more!). I have not bought the book yet but fully intend to VERY soon. Thank you for writing your book -- and I pray that your show never ends! We need more uplifting and positive shows like yours, and I hope your realize how much your show means to new parents like me.

    Moving and Melting Story

It's the first book I've really wanted to read in some time. Chapter 7 made me melt. I have always enjoyed the show, but I was able to put myself in Kate's frame of mind during the first few years of motherhood, and found myself supporting her, (and her family) even more. Forget what wonderful doors that being on TLC has opened for this family, when you read the book and understand how committed and loved these children were from embryos, and how much God is a part of their life-how they try so hard to live their lives based on His words, you will feel triumphant for them all. May God continue to bless this wonderful family. I look forward to reading more!

Wonderful Insight into the joy hidden in the blessings of multiples

As a family with five children, including twins, all of us enjoy watching Jon & Kate Plus Eight. But I've often thought, there was a key element missing in the tv show. How does a family thrive and enjoy such a unique situation without having a strong faith in God and the gift of life? So as soon as I saw the title of their book in Barnes & Noble I couldn't wait to read about how faith played a big part in their discernment process to welcome so many children into their family! The book did not disappoint! Kate and Jon, with the help of their friend Beth, beautifully describe how their love for each other, their faith in God's blessings, and their joy in their children affect their daily life. I loved the quotes from scripture that have encouraged them along the way. As a mother of multiples, I appreciate how they emphasize the uniqueness of each of their eight children, looking for what makes each one of them special and different from each other. And I celebrated with them the thrill of the blessing of multiples. Yes it's overwhelming, but what an adventure and privilege too! Reading their book brought back so many good memories to me of taking care of more than one baby at a time. It is such a humbling thing, to be outnumbered and knowing you are going to have to walk with God's help each and every day and just do your best. There is never enough of you to go around, so you do have to pray that every one's needs are met somehow. And having a sense of humor helps make it fun along the way! Kate and Jon Gosselin simply want to do the best they can taking care of their multiple blessings! I was only disappointed when the book came to an end. An easy read. Very enjoyable and encouraging.

If A Fan of the Show, Save the $20

I have been watching the show from the beginning. I didn't learn anything new. A reviewer mentioned that the book was written by Kate. I beg to differ. Since Beth Carson is the writer, I believe she wrote the book. Kate doesn't seem articulate enough to write such a book. The credit needs to go to Beth Carson.

Since I purchased the book with a gift card, I'm glad I didn't waste my cash for the book. I will pass it on to someone who hasn't seen the show.

Touching and sad...knowing what we know now.

While it is very sad what has happened to the Gosselin family and how things have turned out, this book was awesome to read. You can actually hear Kate's voice in the text and that makes it a little more fun. Their story is compelling and you feel for both Jon and Kate, and each of their children. I read this book in about 4 hours total because I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this!
