Children's Literature - Debra Briatico
This intriguing resource will satisfy curious youngsters who are interested in learning more about the mysterious world of mummies. This book uses true stories, amazing facts and detailed illustrations to describe various mummification practices used throughout history-from ancient Egyptian rituals and customs to the new techniques implemented by today's cryogenic scientists. In addition to discussing which cultures made mummies, the author also describes where and why mummies were made. "A Very Peculiar History"series.
Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Dead bodies whether preserved on purpose or preserved accidentally provide information about individuals and a culture. For the Egyptians, mummification was an art and a serious religious practice. The afterlife was important and the Egyptians went to great lengths to prepare the way for their rulers and other nobles. But, the Egyptians were not the only ones to preserve bodies. Mummies have been found in Greenland, Papua New Guinea and the Canary Islands. Other bodies have been preserved due to freezing or internment in bogs. Lots of goulish details and illustrations should attract even the most reluncant reader, although the density and type size of the text may be challenging.
