Overview

Voluptuous P.I. Savannah Reid's culinary cravings come second only to her appetite for adventure. Of course, every girl needs a little down time, and Savannah adores curling up with a box of chocolates, a steaming Irish coffee, and an even steamier romance novel--preferably one with sexy Lance Roman on the cover. But when she meets her dream hunk in person, things take a decidedly nightmarish turn. . .

As a special birthday treat, Savannah's friends have arranged for her to compete for Lance's affections on a reality TV show called Man of My Dreams. She and four other women will be living in a medieval "castle" with Lance, trying to win his heart.

Unfortunately, the antics take a sinister turn when one of the show's producers, Tess Jarvis, turns up dead. It appears she was felled by a carton of Killer Fudge ice cream, but Savannah's convinced there's more to the story.

Turns out she's right. It seems no one liked Tess. . .not her unhappy husband, or the scheming contestants, or all the disgruntled employees she so heinously wronged. This show is quickly turning into the worst kind of soap opera--with some footage that'll never make it on the air. . .

"Added to a well-plotted mystery, the very funny depiction of a different side of reality television makes Murder á la Mode a delight."--Mystery Scene

"Savannah retains her buoyant good humor throughout."--Publishers Weekly

Library Journal
Some friends of food-loving PI Savannah Reid (Cereal Killer) have arranged for her to participate in a reality TV show where five women vie for the affections of hunky romance cover-model Lance Roman. Unfortunately, someone murders one of the show's producers, a woman much disliked by contestants, employees, and husband alike. Buy for demand. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
Kirkus Reviews
Statuesque sleuth Savannah Reid (Death by Chocolate, 2002, etc.) takes a stab at reality TV, only to find someone stabbing back. Although the only reason she agrees to be on medieval-themed Man of My Dreams is the hope of winning a diamond tiara (which, of course, she plans to sell to get enough money to fix her roof), Savannah Reid quickly discovers a bonus: Lance Roman, her favorite romance-novel cover boy, is the object of the five contestants' videotaped affections. And to her surprise, Lance seems to prefer her company, too, much to the annoyance of Brandy, Leila, Roxy, and Carisa, her stick-thin rivals. Unfortunately, their blossoming friendship is interrupted by the murder of producer Tess Jarvis, whom they find bludgeoned by an unidentified weapon in the cellar of Blackmoor Castle. Savannah's forced to call on her old friend Detective Dirk Coulter, who likes the looks of the corpse even less than he likes her canoodling with Lance. But Tess's husband Alex insists on continuing the shoot, and only after one contestant is flattened by a falling gargoyle and another pierced in a sword fight does Savannah realize that pursuing the man of her dreams may become her worst nightmare. Savannah swoons a little too long over her vision of Lance in tights, but, still, she shows enough tough-mindedness to solve a puzzle that mystifies even Dirk. I just stumbled across this book and loved it. I will be reading the whole series. It's got wit, charm and keeps you guessing to the end.

I enjoy this series but this installment wasn't as strong as others. For one thing the premoise of the tv show in the book is a bit farr fetched. Then there are the almost too resourceful ryan and john. The conflict with dirk was another annoying part of the story.

When the sleuthing business or a stakeout is at a lull, private investigator Savannah Reid passes the time reading steamy romance novels. Though she insist she reads the books, her friends believe that she only buys novels to gaze lovingly at the cover picture when Lance Roman is the model. Her friends Ryan Stone and John Gibson know about her fantasy so arrange as a birthday present for Savannah to be a contestant on a reality show in which the prize is Lance.--- Savannah wants to win the prize badly and makes every effort to use her southern charm on Lance. However, her endeavor takes a back seat when someone kills a show¿s producer Tess with fudge ice cream as the murder weapon; the body is left in a freezer that could only have been loaded by a Texan. Savannah begins investigating the homicide even as she continues to play the Georgia peach with Lance.--- This is a terrific Savannah Reid who-done-it as the heroine combines her sleuthing skills with her southern charm to impress her fantasy lover. The entertaining story line grips the reader as Savannah cannot resist the lure of a murder investigation or the lure of the cover model. Fans of the series will enjoy her latest binge while newcomers will get a taste of one of the better continuing female private investigators on the market today.--- Harriet Klausner

I have read the entire series of the Savannah Reid mysteries written by G. A. McKevett. Cannot wait until the next one comes out. Being a Southerner makes it even better. These are a great read to say the least....
