Overview

Like a magical carousel ride full of whimsical animals, enchanting music, and beautiful colors, the Carousel Club is the most exciting and popular night spot in the District of Columbia until the owner's player brother is murdered by a well-placed bullet to his head as he sat inside his opulent SUV in the parking lot of the club. The magic swiftly evaporates replaced by a mordid crime scene as the Murder at the Carousel Club challenges Detective Lieutenant Matthew Alexander of the District of Columbia Homicide Division to build a rock solid case against a suspect who, rather than fleeing from the scene of the crime, is found unconscious just feet from the man he is accused of murdering with no murder weapon in his possession and no witnesses to the murder. Similar to the spinning of a carousel, Lieutenant Alexander has to work harder than ever to avoid running in circles as he builds a solid case against a suspect who: Threatened to kill the murder victim in front of numerous witnesses inside the club; was known to own a semi-automatic revolver; had fought with the victim inside the club earlier that night; and who had lain-in-wait for the victim outside the Carousel Club. Murder at the Carousel club is an intriguing, hard-to-guess mystery that keeps the reader glued to his seat and flipping the pages of the novel in an effort to guess who killed the victim. What happens next leads Matthew Alexander and his partner Sergeant Jake Jackson on a whirlwind of a homicide case as they solve the murder in Murder at the Carousel Club, the third installment of the Matthew Alexander mystery series. As Matt Alexander begins to plumb the depths of the case, he runs afoul of uncooperative witnesses with respectable reputations to protect and secrets to hide, not to mention a sympathetic ex-convict gone straight who begins to work the case for his own resons. Readers will be enthralled as the author builds a world both real and unforgettable. Here's to a hearty welcome back to Lieutenant Matt Alexander. Its fun to have him back on the beat from his previous encounters in Hot Stones*Cold Death, and Murder on the Gold Coast.

In reviewing the second installment in the Matthew Alexander mystery series, Murder on the Gold Coast, the Midwest Book Review noted that "...the plot follows at breakneck speed, and Matt Alexander and his trusted partner Jake, are in the midst of all the chaos. The action is smart and highly entertaining, and even at the end leaves a little snippet of doubt as to who the actual murderer is...Fleming is a sly writer with lots of talent and this is a great read. Reviewing the evidence.com stated that "D.C.-based writer Barbara Fleming's second novel, Murder on the Gold Coast, is also full of acerbically noted contradictions and slippages between appearance and fact. It is a riveting and hard-to-guess mystery starring Lieutenant Matthew Alexander, the hero of Fleming's first book, Hot Stones*Cold Death." Rebecca Reads said that "Rebecca Reads recommends Murder on the Gold Coast, the second Lt. Alexander complex mystery about old money and new revenge...Murder on the Gold Coast is an absorbing winter's evening mystery."

According to the Xenia Daily Gazette, the first installment in the Matthew Alexander mystery series, Hot Stones * Cold Death, is "Set in the politically charged, racially tense atmosphere of Washington, D.C. Hot Stones * Cold Death weaves a fast-paced tale of thievery and murder that binds several tangled threads into a fascinating tapestry of motives and personalities that cuts a wide swath through an elite slice of District life." All about murder.com said "There is an abundance of politics, crime, power, and racism which makes the novel worth reading. The story is fast paced and readable with enough twists and turns to make it intriguing. The Midwest Book Review states that "Barbara Fleming's Hot Stones * Cold Death is an outstanding mystery novel featuring Lieutenant Matthew Alexander, a homicide detective who must follow the theft of a prized necklace from the Smithsonian's gem collection to identify a ruthless murderer. Hot Stones * Cold Death is a deftly written, thoroughly exciting, cover-to-cover, pulse-pounding thriller of a read."

About the Author

Like many African-American writers, Barbara Fleming is a product of the Deep South. She grew up in Alabama where she attended elementary and high school before graduating from college with a degree in psychology. Barbara also studied psychology at the graduate level with a concentration in the intellectual development of children. Barbara lived in the District of Columbia for ten years during which time she conceived the plot and the fictional hero of her three mystery novels: HOT STONES * COLD DEATH, MURDER ON THE GOLD COAST, and MURDER AT THE CAROUSEL CLUB. She set her mystery novels with her fictional hero, Detective Lieutenant Matthew Alexander, in the District of Columbia because she retains fond memories of the multi-racial, multi-cultural urban environment she experienced while living there. MURDER AT THE CAROUSEL CLUB is the third installment in the Matthew Alexander mystery series, but Barbara eagerly anticipates publishing many more stories involving her brash young hero, Detective Lieutenant Matthew Alexander of the District of Columbia Police Department (DCPD) Homicide Division.
