This is the first book I have read by this author and I thought it was great. I'll read more by this author. The only problem was the format on my Nook. At the end of the sentence whichever word was too long to fit, it was cut off without a hyphen and continued on the next line including apostrophes. It got a bit annoying thats why I only gave it 4 stars.

This story and the entire series has some elements of typical western genre but does not become cliche, adding interesting historical facts, and real people of the day, that are woven into the story as they would be needed not just to drop a famous name. He manages to add these details and side plots without slowing down the story. And the biggest accomplishment of a writer, you feel like you could be this character. If you have spent anytime in Arizona and know a little about the history, you will appreciate how he stayed true to the places and names.

As you would expect from James D. Best, the third book of the Steve Dancy series, is a wonderfully written western story. This time, Steve Dancy seeks help to solve a murder mystery that has his close friend behind bars as the prime suspect. The story moves quickly and keeps the reader guessing which makes it hard to put down. Interesting characters with interesting twists makes this a very enjoyable read.....I am hoping for a fourth book in this series!

This is a really great western. Just get ready to purchase all three. One suggestion is that you read them in order of publication.
