Overview

Nestled in Keyhole Bay, Florida, Glory Martine’s souvenir shop, Southern Treasures, is supposed to trap tourists—not ghosts. But a possessed parrot may be just what Glory needs to solve a murder...

Inheriting her great-uncle Louis’s bayside souvenir shop should have been a breeze for Glory. Instead it’s been one headache after another—with a lot of them generated by Bluebeard, a parrot with a mouth like a sailor and a personality a lot like her late great-uncle. But Glory’s troubles pale in comparison to those of her best friend Karen, whose ex may still have the personalized key chain to her heart, but whose brother-in-law is about to get locked up.

A diver has been found with a gaff hook in his chest, and Karen turns to Glory to help get her brother-in-law off the hook for his murder. But casting the net for the real killer won’t be easy. Glory and Bluebeard are about to find out that the secrets in Keyhole Bay run deeper than anyone ever imagined…

Murder Hooks A Mermaid is the second in the A Haunted Souvenir Shop Mystery series. Glory Martine owns, with her cousin Peter, Southern Treasures, a souvenir shop. She had inherited the shop, along with Bluebeard, a parrot, from her Uncle Louis. But Uncle Louis hasn't completely crossed over, instead has become part of Bluebeard. Glory has just opened the shop for the day, when her best friend Karen arrives all upset. Every week Glory, Karen, and their friends Felipe and Ernie prepare a tradition evening supper. This week it is Karen's turn to cook and her ex-husband has promised her to catch some fresh fish for her. But instead loans his charter boat to his "good for nothing" younger brother, Bobby. Shortly after Bobby makes bail, along with three men who he has taken for a diving trip, one of the men is found with a gaff hook from the boat Bobby has used. Karen still has feeling for her ex's family and being a news reporter at a local radio station she wants to help get Bobby out of trouble. So with the help of Glory, they set out to get to the bottom of this matter. Time to check with other fisherman who offer their boats for charter to learn more about the men who wanted to go on the diving trip. The best of the investigation is that Glory is able to spend some time with Jake who owns the bookstore across the street. There is a mutual interest between them and maybe Glory will get to know a little bit about him. Bluebeard once again offers information that Glory is sure is a clue, but not sure how it applies. This series has great bunch of characters who one wouldn't mind knowing. Sly, who has a auto salvage yard and a junkyard dog named Bobo, figured a little bit more in this book. Everyone from book one is back to help Glory and Karen get to the bottom of the mess. Looking forward to book 3. Well developed story and easy to follow. Recipes are also included.

Once again I enjoyed reading about Bluebeard and Glory. Glory does a good job running her shop and Bluebeard does a good job of helping her solve the crimes. I like the relationships going on, with Glory's friend Karen, and Glory's friend Jake, and the other people that Glory comes into contact daily.I enjoy getting to know the people in this small town. And the mystery adds a lot of interest to the story.

I read ALOT and this is the best book I have read in awhile. You get so involved with the characters. The love triangle was very well handled with a suprise result but ended perfectly. I will definitely read more by this author.
