Editorial Reviews

Jim Bless
It is rare that an author can execute a book as well as Murdoch Hughes has managed with MURDER IN LA PAZ. I found the story to be engaging and consistent throughout, with well thought-out characters. MURDER IN LA PAZ is very enjoyable to read, and surprisingly, (our tastes in literature being very different) my wife and I agreed on how engrossing and entertaining the book is. Hughes masterfully garnishes this mystery with sides of humor and tasteful sexual spice, making a well-rounded meal...

Overall, Murder in La Paz is a novel well worth reading. Anyone looking for a good "kick-back and turn off your mind" read should pick it up. Murder in La Paz gets four spiny cacti out of possible five from this reviewer.

Baja lovers will recognize all of their old stomping grounds in the background of the action. The plot moves thick and fast, and Murdoch Hughes even has a few Dashiell Hammett-like moments with his hard-boiled prose. This dead-eye Dick writing style livens up the whole novel, making it a fun poolside read.

    Recommended for mystery buffs

The descriptions of the area are vivid and well related. The plot twists and turns enough to keep the reader interested and is not predictable. A bit of the gratuitous offsetting references to help it's sales I guess, but not enough to make me put it down. A quick read for the plane or hotel that you use to while away some time and still enjoy.
