Overview

Normally the most violent thing that happens on the campus of Midstate University is a football game, but that all suddenly changes. Dr. Christmas Connery and her basset hound find Elizabeth Page, the director of the Midstate Museum of Art, dead on the gallery floor in the middle of a kinetic sculpture exhibit shortly after a successful opening. It gets even more complicated when it’s discovered she was killed with a very unusual weapon, one that crushed the side of her skull with a half-inch steel ball bearing. The list of people who were not fond of Page is a long one. She could charm the big bucks out of even the stingiest donors, but she rarely wasted her energy on even being polite to her colleagues. Chris’s murder-buff mother, Pansy, while visiting Chris, works her wiles on the police detective in charge, whose unwelcome presence on campus shakes the ivy-covered walls to their foundations. When the most obvious suspect is murdered, even Chris herself is suddenly in danger.

    Very good

Really good mystery. Lots of twists and turns to throw you for a loop, just when you think you have it figured out. Highly recommend.

    Great read!!--Intriguing plot

The most original way to commit a murder. A very unusual setting for a murder, an art department in a university campus, refreshing and with a twist. Very inventive. Couldn't put it down.

    Great mystery

Thought this book was very good, the characters were interesting. Kept wanting to read to figure it out and wasn't really sure until they disclosed the killer. I'll definitely read other stories by this author.

    435 pages

Thus book was 435 pages long, free, perfectly edited and very good. At times it was slow, but that gave me time to think about who and whydunit. There was not any sex or religion in this book...surprized me, but alas, there was a lot of cursing, especially taking the Lord's name in vain. There was the usual token, the setting was unusual, the characters seemed real. I loved the dog and his name cracked me up. I can not imagine going through lfe with the heroine's name. Her mother musr have been given some good drugs during labor. There was not violence except for the muder(s) and they (it) was non- graphic. There was no romance. There was quite a bit of humor, but nothing about this book was silly or cheesy. I would like to read more by this author. Not chick lit, but for everyone, who likes a good, convoluted mystery. For ages 16 and up. Even though lengthy, this was a fast read. It started out slow but picked up the pace around page 100-120. Recommended.

    okay read

While mildly entertaining - the story is just not as riveting as comparable ones. The story line was somewhat predictable. Would modern authors PLEASE get when to use subjective versus objective pronouns. "Who" vs "whom" just comes up again and again. The really good authors not only know how to weave a story but do utilize simple good grammar.

    Interesting!

The story had a lot of twists and turns, however I found it difficult to believe. It took me a week to read the book because I could put it down and not pick it up until I was bored. Ending was unbelievable.

    Only okay, not great

This was a good story but only a mildly interesting mystery. The characters were well developed and likeable, the writing style good, and the murder's MO was very unique, but I found the pace a bit slow. Too much time was spent on the details of administering a university art depatment and speculating about a very small number of clues without really advancing the investigation or creating much suspense. It mostly kept my interest, but I could put it down for long periods without regret. I liked this enough that I will give the author another try.

    College art program suffers murders!

I enjoyed this book from cover to cover. Inside the faculty are the expected jealous actions. Murder is the result. Whodunit nicely ends with reasonable solution.
