Overview

Murder, Lies and Chocolate by Sally Berneathy.
Book 2 of the Death by Chocolate Series.

Rodney Bradford comes into Lindsay's restaurant, offers to buy her small house for double its value, eats her brownies, and drops dead on the sidewalk in front. Then someone breaks into her house and tries to dig up her basement. Next her almost-ex-husband offers to sign the divorce papers, but only if she'll give him her small, old house and take his big, new house instead.

Suddenly everybody wants Lindsay's house. Is there oil under the basement, plans to bring the railroad through, pirate treasure buried in the basement? A second break-in occurs and causes her cat, King Henry, to launch into full attack mode, taking a few chunks out of the intruder.

Lindsay enlists the aid of her enigmatic neighbor, Fred, to help solve the mystery while trying to keep her police detective boyfriend, Trent, from getting in their way with his insistence on all those silly cop rules.

On the positive side, sales skyrocket for the special dessert Lindsay calls Murdered Man's Brownies. Prisoners, murderers, crazy relatives and strippers are all part of the chaos in this second book of the Death by Chocolate series.

BONUS! Chocolate recipes at the end of the book. Poison optional.

Meet the Author

Welcome to my world! Come in, pull up a chair, grab a glass of iced tea and let's chat.

I grew up in a small rural town in southeastern Oklahoma where our favorite entertainment on summer evenings was to sit outside under the stars and tell stories. When I went to bed at night, instead of a lullaby, I got a story. That could be due to the fact that everybody in my family has a singing voice like a bullfrog with laryngitis, but they sure could tell stories—ghost stories, funny stories, happy stories, scary stories.

For as long as I can remember I've been a storyteller. Thank goodness for computers so I can write down my stories. It's hard to make listeners sit still for the length of a book! Like my family's tales, my stories are funny, scary, dramatic, romantic, paranormal, magic.

Besides writing, my interests are reading, eating chocolate and riding my Harley.

A good entertaining read. The author keeps you interested with a story that keeps moving. Not at all violent but has parts that are "frisky"

I loved this book. It was a fun, exciting and easy read. It was fast-paced and had colorful characters. It left me wanting a brownie, chocolate cookies and a coke ready to sink my teeth into the next installment.

I read the first book in the series and loved it. Just right to read while waiting at the doctors office of other appointments. A light read, just for the fun of it. This second book was just as good. I am looking forward to the third book.

I laughed until my sides hurt. It took me two nights to read book 2 of the Death by Chocolate series – not because I wanted to stop, but because I could no longer keep my eyes open. That wonderful cat, King Henry, is back and not only is his distaste for Rick so very obvious, he manages to save the day more than once. Our author has some hilarious dialogue in this book and you just can’t miss what she tells Rick about King Henry. That’s a quote that deserves to be framed! And what would we do without Fred, the guy who seems to be all knowing – just where does he come from? Millions of dollars are thought to be hidden in Lindsey’s house and it’s being sought by all sorts of cagey people. Who ends up with it will be the biggest surprise of all. From a senior living community to a strip club, Berneathy takes us all over town in an attempt to solve the mystery. Maybe in the next chapter, Lindsey will finally be a free woman.

Great sequel to the first book. Sometimes I found the main character a bit annoying due to her continued sarcasm. Maybe it's all the Coke and chocolate she consumes. There were so many references to this , it made me sick to my stomach thinking about all that sugar! Still enjoyable and more great recipes at the end.

I had two other Sally Berneathy books on my nook, but removed them, leaving this one on. In this episode, the heroine is preparing for her upcoming wedding. Unfortunately, her one of a kind gown looks almost identical to that of one of her rivals from high school, who rips her gown, but ends up dead. She handles the whole thing better than I would. Will the wedding go off as planned. Stay tuned! Women in a book group might like this as a choice, since it would probably appeal more to women. I have read other books by this author, and would probably choose others as well

Sally Berneathy writes some of the best cozy mysteries I have ever read. Her ability to make me laugh out loud on several occasions alone makes this book worthy of 5 stars. However, there's so much more. Murder, Lies and Chocolate has a great plot, romance, and decadent recipes that you're going to love. If you're looking for an awesome cozy mystery series, Death by Chocolate is not to be missed!
