I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but think I'm a European. After spending my senior year of high school in Germany, I developed a bad case of wanderlust that is yet to be cured. My flying Dutch husband and I have lived in Ohio, Virginia, the Netherlands, Germany and now Istanbul. We still haven't decided if we want to settle down somewhere - let alone where. Although I've been a military policewoman, a commercial lawyer, and a B&B owner, I think with writing I may have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. That's assuming I ever grow up, of course. Between tennis, running, traveling, singing off tune, drinking entirely too many adult beverages, and reading books like they are going out of style, I write articles for a local expat magazine and various websites, review other indie authors' books, write a blog about whatever comes to mind and am working on my fifth book.
Murder, Mystery & Dating Mayhemby D. E. Haggerty
My name is Izzy. I drink too much, am clumsier than a newborn foal, and my brain-to-mouth filter often malfunctions. My daredevil husband killed himself in a parachuting accident five years ago and my best friend Jack has decided it's time I jump back in the dating pool. He's perfectly happy to throw me in if I don't listen. Just when things in the dating world start to heat up, my grandma dies. Only her knitting group of Jessica Fletcher wannabes is sure it's murder. I'm not convinced but I'm always up for a bit of excitement as long as it doesn't lead to a night in jail. Well, more than one night anyway. Will I miss my chance at love because I'm chasing imaginary killers? Did someone really kill grandma or am I and my merry band of geriatric thieves imagining things?

Firstly I would like to thank the author for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this fabulous book. Oh my goodness! I couldn’t put this one down for a second. Izzy believes her Grandma was murdered but her death was declared a heart attack. Actually, Izzy was not a blood relation to Grandma at all. She 'adopted' Grandma who was her deceased husband's grandmother. Grandma had many friends who all thought she had been murdered and told Izzy of their suspicions. Izzy started looking into the mysterious death along with her best friend, Jack and the elderly ladies. They all wanted to help solve the crime. As all this is going on, Izzy meets Noel through a speed dating event thanks to Jack who thinks she needs to get back into the dating pool. Noel is a detective and keeps telling Izzy to let the police solve the crime. But Izzy cannot let it go. There is no stopping Grandma's posse of friends who will not stop investigating until they find out who killed Grandma. This is a wonderfully written mystery that I couldn't put down. The book is a great read and definitely captures the reader in the story line. I couldn't imagine how a mystery could be funny but it sure can be. You have to read this book and see for yourself. The characters were fantastic! First we have Izzy who is kind of a klutz but is like a dog with a bone and won't let go of something once she starts it. Her hunky, gay, best friend, Jack, always has her back. Then there are the posse of old ladies who believe themselves to be detectives and are sooooo funny. I love them and how they try to help solve the crime. A laugh out loud moment for me was when they were referred to as the Ben-gay brigade. I loved this book! It was hilarious and had me chuckling constantly.
Delightful and Entertaining! Favorite Quotes: “Sometimes my mouth opens before my brain can stop it. “’A thong,” she chortles. ‘Don’t you know better than to wear dental floss for underwear?’” “He’s so far out of my league I’m surprise the dating police haven’t hauled him away for a grievous felony.” “I shuffle into the kitchen in search of something easy to make. Okay, fine, I admit it, I’m heading for the freezer and my favorite lovers – Ben and Jerry.” “I only have so much strength to deny my hormones. Hormones basically take over your body at forty. Buyer beware.” My Review: What a fun and delightful romp! Ms. Haggerty has concocted an entertaining and humorous array of characters and tossed them together with some funny words and amusing antics and crafted them into a charming and adorable story. It is a hybrid genre hopper that does actually involve a cozy murder mystery with geriatric wannabe sleuths, as well as a contemporary romance with a hunky detective. Written in first person narrative in a pleasantly conspiratorial manner. I enjoyed it start to finish and maintained a near constant smile while I read.
I enjoyed this book.... made me laugh which I love in a book. The characters are fun & quirky & the story line was interesting. I did have some issues with the romance between Izzy & Noel..... he got serious WAY fast & he kept stating "I'm your man" which as a 40 year old woman's boyfriend seems weird. Lots of editing issues.... not a huge problem but distracting... hopefully it was just my edition. Given a free copy from NetGallley.com in exchange for an honest review.
A digital copy of this book was provided to Nerd Girl Official in exchange for an honest review. Murder, Mystery & Dating Mayhem by D.E. Haggerty is the first book in the The Gray-Haired Knitting Detectives Series. There is no cliff-hangers here, so it is easy to read as a stand-alone. This book is so much fun! It's easy to put yourself in Izzy's shoes as she runs around after this troupe of knitting seniors. As the title indicates, there is mystery, romance, and hilarious mayhem. After reading this, you will definitely want to read the next. If you haven't already, I highly recommend adding D.E. Haggerty to your watch lists. I cannot wait to read more!
